After days of speculation and more than a decade of hopes and dreams from fans, Liam and Noel have finally patched up their differences and announced that Oasis will tour the UK and Ireland. Tickets for the shows go on sale at 9am on Saturday 31 August. Scroll to the bottom of this article for a detailed list of the Britpop legend's UK performances.
Having last performed together in 2009 after an acrimonious split, few fans had any hope left that the brothers Gallagher would get back together. However, Liam has spent days fuelling the flames of speculation on social media by resharing news articles reporting a possible reunion and posting ‘I never did like that word FORMER’ on X.
He also dedicated a rendition of ‘Half The World Away’ to his brother during a headline set at Reading Festival on Sunday. The same gig ended with a date which many assumed to be the reunion announcement. The official Oasis website has read ’27.08.24’ since Liam’s Reading gig finished.
For his part, Noel took to YouTube in an interview with music journalist John Robb, in which he reminisced about the band’s debut album Definitely Maybe and spoke about his brother in glowing terms (a relative rarity over the past few years). Watch that video below.
Since Oasis split, Noel has released four albums under the name Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and featured on tracks with Gorillaz, The Black Keys, David Holmes and others. Liam was frontman for the unsuccessful band Beady Eye, released three successful solo albums under his own name and, most recently, collaborated with former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire on an album which rekindled the sound of Britpop.
The band’s famously acrimonious split came after a fight backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris in 2009. In a public statement directly after the cancelled gig, Noel wrote, ‘It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.’
However, unlike most of their 90s peers, the popularity of Oasis has never dampened and their fanbase now consists of a new generation of bucket hat-loving teenagers. Across the past year, Liam has toured the band’s Definitely Maybe album, to mark 30 years since its release, to sold out audiences.
