Olga Koch Comes From Money comedy review: Goofy but impressive
Wealth, class and culture all tackled in this richly provocative hour
Bursting onto the stage with an infectious energy and a techno beat, Olga Koch is not like other comedians. As a bustling audience settles in, new-money Koch doesn’t hide behind a scruffy and aloof exterior. Instead, she suits up and grins excitedly under the lights of a dark basement venue before musing on all things relating to wealth, class and culture, with a couple of nostalgic jokes thrown in for her fellow Millennials.
Whilst the room warms up (both literally and figuratively) cheeky anecdotes pour from the stage as Koch recalls her Carrie Bradshaw-esque days in New York and public-transport escapades. As she lets us into the world of tech moguls, Russian oligarchs and yacht toilets, her jokes are delivered with goofy sincerity and impressive timing.
In the last stretch, Koch takes a searing look into Britain’s social hierarchy with an astute poke at our own class system, combining political commentary with philosophy, while still making the audience break into applause at the slightest flick of an eyelid. Richly provocative, this hour of comedy will give you plenty of unexpected laughs and a banquet of food for thought.
