The premise that if you don't go to sleep, Santa won't come is the central idea of this festive performance for ages 3–6, where seven siblings, all in their nightclothes and sharing one big colourful bed are trying to get to sleep on Christmas Eve. However, they keep having to get up, thus delaying the potential arrival of Mr Claus. It's a premise readily accepted by the young audience, who fervently call out 'Santa won't come!' each time they get out of bed.

The youthful cast brings plenty of energy to the performance, with raucous physical comedy, a scooter chase around the audience and even a human pyramid to hang a star. Well-placed repetitions, such as the domino effect of the siblings sitting up in bed or wishing each other goodnight simultaneously, make great hooks. The company behind One More Sleep 'til Christmas are all from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and the production makes excellent use of the performers' musical talents, with live music and beautiful harmonised versions of traditional Christmas songs, including 'Deck the Halls' and 'In the Bleak Midwinter'.

The mix of songs, physical comedy and even a bedtime story accompanied by a puppet show keeps the attention of the younger ones for the whole hour. There's a disappointing gender stereotype in the script that girls want to be seen as pretty but overall it's a wholesome tale that taps into that special excitement of spending Christmas Eve with your siblings.

Citizens Theatre, Glasgow, until Sun 31 Dec.
