Outdoor theatre and visual art parks among the great summer activities in the Year of Creative Scotland

Our natural landscape has inspired creativity for generations, and there’s no better place to experience our incredible cultural offering this summer than outdoors. Find out all that this special year has to offer at www.visitscotland.com/creative.
Our performances aren't only played out in theatres ...
This July, experience an enchanting programme of outdoor theatre set against Scotland’s most impressive backdrops.
Culzean Castle hosts Oscar Wilde’s classic satire, The Importance of Being Earnest (Mon 4 Jun-Tue 10 Jul), as well as Sleeping Beauty (Mon 4 Jun-Wed 11 Jul). The Festival Players promise slick productions of both Twelfth Night at Hill of Tarvit (Cupar, 7 July) and Richard III at Newhailes House (East Lothian, Sun 29 Jul) which will also stage Heartbreak Productions’ award winning adaptation of E. Nesbit’s The Railway Children (Sat 14 Jul). Kids will love seeing Peter Rabbit and friends at Drum Castle (Fri 6 Jul) as well as a gruesome yet outrageously funny rendition of Roald Dahl's The Twits by Illyria at Crathes Castle (Sat 14 Jul).
... and we don't just keep our art in galleries
Enter a secretive world of sculpture gardens and hidden artworks in unexpected places. Jupiter Artland in the grounds of Bonnington House, Edinburgh is a work-in-progress where you will always discover new art; and beneath the Pentland Hills find Little Sparta, a sculpture garden created by Scottish artist and writer Ian Hamilton Finlay.
Head out of the city to Cairnhead, Dumfries & Galloway where Andy Goldworthy’s red sandstone Striding Arches crown the land. Sculpture lovers will also enjoy Tyrebagger Wood, Aberdeenshire.
