Phoebe Walsh: I'll Have What She's Having

Wayward and directionless hour of millennial angst

There are comedians around this Fringe who have been dubbed variously as the new Sean Lock, James Acaster or Dave Allen. But Phoebe Walsh has achieved the dubious notoriety of being compared to Davina McCall. Quite whether she would want to add this to her next press release is unclear, but on being in her unstintingly perky company for the best part of an hour, you can see where the link is coming from.

After spilling the familial beans on her rotund father and right-wing mother, and wrongly attributing a famous Groucho Marx quote to Woody Allen, Walsh spends a curiously elongated amount of time just, well, having a bit of a dance for reasons that are best known to herself. A former member of the oddball sketch troupe Oyster Eyes, Walsh clearly thinks that she should allow a moment for the darkness to creep in, but there's nothing especially daring in her badly-mimed shooting spree.

Arguably the epitome of a self-obsessed millennial, the Phoebe Walsh that's presented on stage is naturally hung-up on the online dating game and has finally settled on defining her own sexuality. Hopefully she can channel that natural exuberance into defining exactly what she wants her act to be.

Pleasance Courtyard, until 27 Aug, 9.30pm, £9–£11 (£8–£10).
