Pride Scotia

Pride is back in Edinburgh on Sat 23 June after last year’s Glasgow outing, with a whole host of official and off-the-parade-route events. This year, many of the Sisters and Brothers of the Order of Perpetual Indulgence (ie men and women dressed as nuns) will be in town while they hold their EuroConclave (21-25 June). With twin tenets of ‘the expiation of stigmatic guilt’ and ‘the promulgation of universal joy’, these nuns on the run will be offering ‘condom ministry’ at the festival as part of their work to promote sexual health. In the same spirit of religious irreverence, The List offers you the Nine Stations of Pride. Enjoy.
Pride Scotia Edinburgh ‘07 March The official events kick off at East Market Street with the march going down The Mound, along Princes Street and down Leith Walk to Balfour Street where the party awaits. East Market Street. Noon.
Pride Rainbow Party If the march is too energetic, retire to CCs for a day of boozing with DJs Craig, Shazza, Blondie and Cilla Slack, drag shows at 6pm and 12.30am and the Flashback Dancers. CC Blooms, 23-24 Greenside Place. 1pm-3am.
Pride Scotia Edinburgh ‘07 Festival Meanwhile, at Pilrig Park one almighty party is kicking off with live music (including Edinburgh a capella group Loud and Proud), demonstrations from Lothian and Borders Fire Service, footie, rugger, a beer tent, chillout spaces for boys and girls and, of course, those nuns. Pilrig Park. 2-7.30pm.
LGBT Youth An oasis of sense amid the hedonism, the LGBT Youth team will be presiding over some cute furry animals at Gorgie Farm Cuddle Corner (2-4pm) and P in the Park free Chlamydia testing kits. Pilrig Park.
Torch Song Trilogy If it’s all getting a bit too much, head for some class with theatre company Luvvies and their production of Harvey Fierstein’s trilogy about love, homophobia and a Jewish drag queen in1970s New York. Adam House, 3 Chamber Street, 07961 672564. 4pm. £15 (£10).
Pride Parties Bridge the gap between daytime festivities and sunset with one of the special nights at Habana (with DJs from 3pm and cabaret and singers from 7pm), Planet Out, The Street, Deep Blue/Blue Moon Café or Sala Café (for a Pride Pirates Party in association with Furburger at 8pm). Various pubs. See www.pride-scotia.org.
Pride Scotia Official Aftershow Party If you’re still standing, head back into town for some dancing with guest PAs Skooch and James Longworth. City, 1a Market Street. 11pm-3am. £6-8; 241 b4 midnight.
Fever If you don’t fancy City, try Fever with special guest Alan Joy joining Fisher & Price on the decks. Ego, 14 Picardy Place. 11pm-3am. £10 (members £5-£8).
Morning After If the debauchery gets a little out of hand you can always seek out the Edinburgh chapter of the Order of Perpetual Indulgence to buy an ‘absolution’, with which you can ‘renounce all guilt, past, present and future’. If only they could cure hangovers. www.thesisters.org.uk.
