Name: The Unabombers

Also known as: Mancunian duo Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford.

Occupation: Premiership electro-funk producers, remixers and DJs of longstanding vintage. You might know them in their other guise, Elektrons, who are heavier on the electro than the funk.

Where do they come from? From little spoken-of beginnings, at least in Crawford’s case, as the bassist in early 90s post-baggyists New Fast Automatic Daffodils. Cowdrey’s vintage is unknown, although the pair have been working together as proto-Unabombers and under various other guises since 1995. Their biggest claim to fame, of course, is not for any of their production work, but as the originators of Manchester’s seminal Electric Chair night.

How’s that going for them? It isn’t. After ten years, the boys decided to call a halt to the night in January of last year with its reputation unworn from hanging around too long. Then they went off and started a new annual festival in Croatia named Electric Elephant, and dished up a retrospective mix CD entitled Electric Chair Saved My Life in late ‘08. Then there’s the Elektrons project, which sired the album Red Light, Don’t Stop, and sometime touring work as both Electric Souls and The Electric Souls Soundsystem. Keeping up with all that? Anyway, their reputation has been made as genre-straddling party DJs in the main.

Perfect for Trouble then? Yep. This isn’t their first time, though – the pair are veterans of the club, having first played there in 2004. Providing support in the back room will be the also very Troublesome pairing of DJ Scope and Kid Bel, who run their own nights Choice Cuts and Good Foot in Dublin and Aberdeen respectively, and of course the club’s residents Hobbes and Erik D’Viking will be helping steer things along.
