Radical Book Fair to celebrate 'histories of resistance' for 2024 edition
Edinburgh’s political book fair will welcome speakers like Jeremy Corbyn and Salena Godden to the city this November

The Radical Book Fair will celebrate 30 years of radical book selling with the theme ‘from where we stand’, and will run from Thursday 21–Sunday 24 November at Assembly Roxy. Tickets for events at the fair are on sale now and are available to purchase on a sliding scale.

Lighthouse Books, which organises the four-day event every year, said, ‘This year’s fair will celebrate the way histories of resistance, protest and change-making live on in every step we take toward a more just future.’ It plans to include an engaging suite of panel conversations, workshops, performances and exhibitions covering topics as diverse as the housing crisis, the funding and culture of the arts sector, transfeminism and climate justice, and will hold a dedicated panel for young people in collaboration with Book Week Scotland.
Speakers at the event include former Labour Party leader and current Member of Parliament for Islington North Jeremy Corbyn, who will be joined by Professor Kate Pickett and Professor Oliver Escobar to discuss what community power means in our time. Poet and novelist Salena Godden will be joined by Palestinian poet Hasib Hourani and poet-activist Lisa Minerva Luxx for a radical writing cabaret.

Other Palestinian voices will be foregrounded on the opening night by a panel featuring US-based author Sami Hermez and Comma Press editor Basma Ghalayini on the way Palestinian stories are spread and received. Meanwhile, histories of resistance will be explored throughout the fair, with insights on Kashmir, Sudan and Kurdistan, as well as a panel with Henry Bell, June Thomas and Professor Tommy J Curry, who bring leftist, LGBTQ+ and Black history perspectives.
