Rosalie Minnitt: Clementine 2 comedy review – Anachronistic chaos reigns
The gloriously unhinged debutante returns with memes, musical mayhem and enough laughs to make plot entirely unnecessary
Lydia Bennet for the TikTok generation, Lady Clementine Upon Chessington World Of Adventures is back. A follow-up to Rosalie Minnitt’s 2023 hit show Clementine, this time Lady C is off to the big city in search of (horror of horrors!) work. Her urban adventures bring her face to face with strange bird women, singing urchins and her old frenemy, Satsuma. As Minnitt herself readily admits in one of her many breaks in character, Clementine 2 has very little in the way of plot, so anyone can jump straight in. The show would be more accurately described as a series of anachronistic gags connected by one delulu debutante. But when the gags are this good, who cares about plot?
From the moment our title character appears in her Adidas bodice, Clementine 2 is an absolute riot (in more ways than one). Memes and musical references abound along with some very witty wordplay, and Minnitt clearly delights in the absurdity of it all. You would be hard pressed not to embrace the chaos along with her. The show may be geared towards terminally online Gen Z women but, with Minnitt’s high-octane delivery and fearless sense of fun, there’s enough hilarity for everyone.
