Pride returns to Glasgow this fortnight following a two-year absence and an amicable split with Pride Scotia, its Edinburgh counterpart. To mark the 15th year of Pride in Scotland organisers have promised a memorable event, including a march from Kelvinway into the city centre and an exciting line-up of music and entertainment at George Square.

Run entirely by volunteers, and aiming to entice around 5000 participants, this year’s main stage features performances from Scottish music legend Horse and X Factor finalist Laura White and Banditto, in a show compered by comedian Scott Agnew and cabaret regular Cheri Treiffel. The line-up also includes stalls from organisations such as Gay Men’s Health and the West of Scotland LGBT Forum as well as a Youth Space and Family Fun Zone.

It all sounds like great fun, but does Pride have the same relevance today as it did 15 years ago?

‘The first pride events were a protest,’ says organiser Ross Stevenson, ‘and over the past 15 years we’ve seen changes that have given equality to LGBT people. However, there are still issues that the community faces and apart from Pride being a way of celebrating equality, Pride Glasgow is still a way of highlighting issues faced by LGBT people in Scotland, the UK and the world.’
