ScreenList: October 2026
ScreenList recommends must-see screenings at Filmhouse throughout October. In a very spooky special edition, programme manager Raymah Tariq recommends a bundle of horror, from vaunted classics to hidden gems

Anguish (35mm)
Our story begins with a seemingly mild-mannered ophthalmologist and his overbearing mother who is revealed to be hypnotising him to murder people and collect their eyes. Apart from this, DO NOT READ ANYTHING ABOUT THIS FILM, but know that this is the film to watch in a cinema and you will be squirming in your seat.
Anguish, Sunday 25 October, 8.30pm.
Targets
Boris Karloff plays an iconic horror star (meta!) who agrees to one last public outing at the request of a director, played by Peter Bogdanvich (in his own directorial debut – very meta!). Meanwhile, a young man goes on a shooting spree and causes a mass panic through the streets of the San Fernando Valley. Gripping and astute in its social commentary, Targets will stay with you long after the credits roll and features one of Karloff’s most perfectly delivered lines.
Targets, Saturday 17 October, 6pm & Tuesday 27 October, 4pm.
Other spooky treats in our Halloween programme include a tribute to Roger Corman with the delightful social satire A Bucket of Blood (Tuesday 20 October) and the stunning The Masque Of The Red Death (Sunday 4 October), to commemorate his centenary (he also produced Targets); a Hitchcock serial killer double bill of Psycho (Saturday 10 October) and Frenzy (Sunday 11 October); a celebration of Tim Curry’s memory with another screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Wednesday 28 October), and this time we encourage you to dress up; and, of course, Jack Nicholson will deliver more than a few iconic lines in The Shining (Friday 30 & Saturday 31 October).
