This is possibly the most low key show at the Fringe. After announcing himself onto the stage minus any run-in music, Sean Nolan proceeds to read his one liners from a notepad, pausing occasionally to laugh self-consciously at a punchline or shake his head at the more risky material. The tempo doesn't change at all across the hour. Which makes it all the more impressive that he keeps the audience's attention throughout and that the laughs keep coming.

This young Irishman sure knows how to write a gag. It comes as no surprise to learn that he won the RTE Two New Comedy Award last year – the prize was 5000 euros and he's sunk it into this, his début comedy show. That's dedication for you. His simple jokes are finely crafted and many reveal a deliciously cruel sense of humour. He closes the show just as simply by showing some of his cartoons, displaying an equal amount of talent for drawing. But he does need to develop some kind of delivery – maybe ramp up the deadpan and emphasise it as a style.

Once the performance side of the act is complete, he'll be sorted as he's certainly got the material nailed.
