Video game composer Akira Yamaoka will perform music from his much-loved repertoire at a series of UK concerts, accompanied by his band.

Although a well-respected composer of dozens of game soundtracks, it's very much for Konami's Silent Hill series that Yamaoka is best known.

The original Silent Hill was released on PlayStation in 1999 but it was Silent Hill 2, released two years later on PS2 that really cemented the series in gamer's terrified hearts. Often cited as one of the best games ever made (and certainly one of the most scary), much of its success is down to Yamaoka's astonishing otherworldly soundtrack, heavily influenced by the dark ambient stylings of Trent Reznor, and Angelo Badalamenti's haunting work on Twin Peaks.

Yamaoka continued to work on the series until 2009, and his compositions for the first four games were used wholesale for the soundtrack to the first film adaptation in 2006. Although the games (and films) decreased in quality, Yamaoka had expressed a desire to return to the game series upon the announcement that a new entry, titled Silent Hills, was being made by legendary Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima together with gothic horror maestro Guillermo del Toro. However, to the dismay of fans everywhere, following a monumental fallout between Kojima and Konami, that project is well and truly buried.
