Simple Minds, The Maccabees and The View set for Edinburgh Hogmanay 2012

New Year's Eve celebrations in the Scottish capital
Scottish rock band Simple Minds will headline this year’s Edinburgh Hogmanay Concert in the Gardens. The band, whose hits include ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ and ‘Alive and Kicking’, will be joined on the line-up by The View and Edinburgh’s Bwani Junction.
The live music stages surrounding the Princes Street are will also feature, with the Waverley Stage playing host to Mercury Prize nominees The Maccabees. Elsewhere, the Scottish Stage moves this year to South Frederick Street with Admiral Fallow, Lau and Shooglenifty all on hand with their special brand of Celtic charm. Head to the Mound Precinct for this year’s The Keilidh. The main feature at Hogmanay, as always, is the midnight fireworks display.
Returning for its 20th year in 2012, new additions to the Hogmanay Street Party programme include open air nightclub REW1ND3R: The Biggest Party - In Years, celebrating all things pop with tunes from 1953-2013, helmed by DJ Swiss alongside VJs Buttercup and Pixels. Other innovations include a new route for the Torchlight Procession, starting from the National Museum of Scotland and culminating on top of Calton Hill, as well as a new line-up of events for Jan 1 called Your Lucky Day, which includes spoken word, music, dance and live street theatre.
Free transport home, throughout the city, will also be made available, with networks operated by Lothian Buses open to anyone at the Street Party, Concert in the Gardens or The Keilidh. Details on timetable and bus stops will be released from the beginning of December.
