With Burns Night approaching, here’s your round-up of the best bashes to celebrate the birthday of Scotland’s most iconic poet

Supping and sipping
An evening of fun and flavour awaits at Lost Shore. Partnering with Fable Whisky, the team at Lost Kitchen presents a multi-course Burns Night Supper featuring all the classics, plus whisky-cured salmon and Rab-themed pizza. Early birds who’d prefer a Burns breakfast to a supper need look no further than Dishoom’s Haggis Pau, a favourite from its Glasgow restaurant making its way to Edinburgh for the first time, from Monday 19 January. Using local ingredients, this dish adds a Bombay twist to the Scottish delicacy.
Enjoy a luxurious Burns Supper at The Leddie, with a welcome cocktail on arrival and a four-course meal in which each course is thoughtfully paired with a Balvenie whisky. Dine in splendour with the knowledge that you’re supporting a good cause at The Big Burns Ball. A mouth-watering three-course supper will be followed by dancing, live music and a raffle, with all profits going towards The Matthew Smith Fund, a charity supporting people with brain tumours. Burns for bairns

Take the whole family along to Sloans’ Grand Ballroom for its Wee Ceilidh, led by Sloans’ in-house band and caller. Tots can dance their fill and then head over to the colouring table for some relaxed fun, or keep on spinning in the hopes of winning the coveted ‘best dancer’ prize. Glasgow, Saturday 24 January.
Fill those rumbling tummies at Ellisland Museum And Farm’s Bairns Burns Supper for an afternoon of storytelling, games and a tasty kids’ portion of haggis, neeps and tatties. With live bagpipe music and short poetry readings, there’s no better place to introduce wee ones to Burns than at his own home. Dumfries, Sunday 25 January.

What better way to commemorate the life of Robert Burns than with Celtic Connections, one of Scotland’s most iconic music festivals? Head to Kelvingrove Burns Night Concert (Sunday 25 January) for a mega line-up of music, song and spoken-word performances in the stunning surroundings of Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, or opt for a more intimate celebration with Amy Lord’s Burns workshop, where you will be taught to sing in harmony to a selection of Burns’ songs. Inspired by one of Burns’ most enduring poems, folk singer Mairi Campbell presents Auld Lang Syne, a show about friendships, relationships, success and failure. Following a sell-out Fringe run, The Burns Project is back. Set around a dinner table and accompanied by live music, this immersive theatrical production takes inspiration from Robert Burns’ private letters, giving you a chance to meet the man behind the myth. Why not take a more active approach and participate in Innis & Gunn’s Burns Day 5k? Lace up those trainers and join running coach Mark Baxter as he leads you through Rabbie Burns’ Edinburgh.
