Something for everyone at this year’s Royal Highland Show
As well as showcases, demonstrations and competitions, the Royal Highland Hoolie makes a welcome return

For more than 200 years, the Royal Highland Show (RHS) has championed and celebrated rural life, food and farming across Scotland. It began in 1822 as a touring show before planting its roots at Ingliston in 1960, and it’s now Scotland’s biggest outdoor event, welcoming more than 200,000 visitors every year over its long weekend. It’s easily accessible via public transport, including several bus routes, the Ingliston Park & Ride tram stop and shuttle buses from two nearby railway stations.

Visitors can expect to enjoy livestock and equine showcases, incredible machines and tractors, plus more than 800 tradestands, offering a huge variety of food, clothing, outdoor furniture and gifts. There’s so much to enjoy for the whole family, including pole-climbing championships, chainsaw carving, axe-throwing and BMX stunts. Not only that but kids always go free, and they’re encouraged to get involved in activities at the RHET Discovery Centre, including bread making, learning about peat, and milking Mabel, the centre’s famous fibreglass cow.
Not only that but the Royal Highland Hoolie returns for its second year, with a spectacular music show featuring some of the best Scottish and Irish talent, including performances from TikTok sensation Nathan Evans (Seaman Shanty) and Rednex, purveyors of 1994 earworm ‘Cotton Eye Joe’.

There’s also show jumping, cookery demonstrations, sheep shearing and The Grand Parade which offers visitors the chance to see countless breeds from the comfort of the grandstands. Whatever you’re into, you’ll find it at the Royal Highland Show.
