Night Frights

Terror For Tots

Artie’s Singing Kettle is touring a special Halloween edition, featuring spooky singalongs, intriguing mysteries, and old favourites. Turn up in your creepiest, most creative costume. Rutherglen Town Hall, Saturday 25 October; Rothes Hall, Glenrothes, Sunday 26 October.
Edinburgh’s Ultimate Halloween Festival promises fun for all the family with a pumpkin patch, a witch’s labyrinth and a devilish disco. When you’ve had your fill of games, toast some marshmallows or sit back with some street food and marvel at the fireworks and flame performers. Conifox Adventure Park, until Friday 31 October.
SEC opens its doors for GlasGhost, a Halloween bonanza away from the chilly October wind (and, let’s face it, probably rain). Save the Earth from aliens in a game of laser tag, travel on a ghost train and eat your fill wandering through Trick Or Treat Alley. Glasgow, Friday 24 October.
Silver Screen Scares

Whisky Soda invites you to relive the magic of Tim Burton this Halloween with Flick And Mix, a two-night immersive cocktail and film experience. Catch Beetlejuice on Thursday 30 October or go for The Nightmare Before Christmas on Friday 31 October. Each screening is accompanied by four hand-crafted cocktails and a complementary bag of popcorn. CCA, Glasgow.
This Halloween brings not one but two options to see the original Nosferatu on the big screen. Head to the Institut Français d'Ecosse’s Fright Night for a screening with perfect gothic vibes, complete with candlelight and piano accompaniment. For afor a more loose-limbed score, give Filmhouse’s Nosferatu screening a try. It will be scored live by improvisational trio S!nk. Edinburgh, Friday 31 October.
Or settle down for a full day of Horror Madness. Five horror flicks from cult hits like The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue to ‘90s classic Candyman, starring the late Tony Todd, can be seen back-to-back at Glasgow Film Theatre, Sunday 26 October.
Ghosts, Ghouls, and Goblins

Edinburgh might be a very safe, pleasant city nowadays, but that wasn’t always the case. Learn about the horrible crimes of yore, including the spree that may have inspired Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde, with a True Crime Tour at Mary King’s Close. You also have the option to expand your experience with A Spirited Evening At Amber Restaurant, and enjoy a tasting menu featuring some of the best Scottish produce. Until Friday 31 October.
Do you dare journey into Kelburn Haunted Forest? Twisted, horrifying creatures, jump-scares and horrors beyond imagination wait in the dark woods. For the first time, guests are invited to stay overnight with the ‘stay and scare’ package, including drinks to celebrate your survival. Kelburn Castle And Estate, Largs, until Saturday 2 November.
It may be open year-round but there’s no better time to visit the Edinburgh Dungeons. In addition to the usual scares, Mary Shelley’s Monster is making his debut. Step inside the anatomy theatre and watch as electricity crackles, volts surge and Frankenstein comes to life. Until Sunday 2 November.
Provan Hall is one of Scotland’s most haunted houses, with the spirits of Titanic survivors, 17th century poets and one of Mary Queen of Scots’ own councillors wandering the corridors. Hear the stories of these sad spirits on one of their ghost tours or book the hall for your very own paranormal investigation. Glasgow, Thursday 23 & Thursday 30 October.
