AROUND TOWN

Combining sensational street food, cocktails and music with 20 lines of draught beer from Moonwake and other top breweries, Lunarpalooza (Friday 26 – Sunday 28 July) is more than just a beer festival. Check it out on the Leith shore in Edinburgh.
If you’re looking for something more family friendly then Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park will be playing host to a Children’s Art And Stories Day (Saturday 27 July). This free, drop-in event will be helping kids express their creativity with expert storytellers and artists.
Bag yourself some beautiful objects at Dundee’s The Yard Market (Saturday 27 July), a dog- and child-friendly fixture at The Old Steeple Church, bringing together independent makers and creatives and guest street food businesses.

Summer Nights At The Bandstand returns to Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park for its ninth year with a top quality line-up, including soulful Scottish singer-songwriter and Brit award-winner Emeli Sandé (Saturday 27 July).
Fionnbarr Byrne & Emma Capponi (Saturday 27 July) will be swinging by Edinburgh’s Lost in Leith this weekend to launch their new album Potsdam. They’ll be joined by guests Joel Cathcart and Meursault.
Superstar DJ, Radio 1 legend, podcaster and author Annie Mac (Friday 26 July) will be bringing her Before Midnight club night to Glasgow’s SWG3 following sell-out sessions around the country.
STAGE

Gracing Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo this weekend with her wonderfully gobby presence is Miriam Margolyes (Friday 26 July). The BAFTA-winning actor will be taking you on a tour of her life and wide-ranging opinions as she promotes her latest book Oh Miriam!, something that has been said to her a lot over the years.
The movie version may still be giving you nightmares but why not experience Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical sensation the way it was intended in CATS – The Beyond Broadway Experience (Friday 26 & Saturday 27 July), a theatrical extravaganza that will be swinging by Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre.
Previews are taking place this weekend for Dundee Rep and Traverse Theatre co-production A History Of Paper (until Saturday 27 July), a musical love story which will travel to this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Catch it first at Dundee Rep.

Much-anticipated superhero match-up Deadpool & Wolverine should delight fans, with Deadpool announcing himself as the MCU’s saviour in this most meta of movies, and Wolverine reluctantly joining him for the ride. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprise their most famous roles, with fun cameos aplenty.
If you’re looking to satisfy your appetite for the strange then you won’t do better than cult-favourite-in-the-making I Saw The TV Glow. From director Jane Schoenbrun, it channels and parodies the collective obsession with 90s fantasy fare like Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Available to watch on Apple TV+ right now is Time Bandits a televisual take on Terry Gilliam’s beloved 80s feature from Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris and Taika Waititi, and starring Lisa Kudrow.

From Texas Monthly comes their latest true story of crime and justice The Problem With Erik. Host Katy Vine and producer Ana Worrel get to the bottom of a perfect storm of secrets, mistaken identities and miscommunications that left two people dead.

Experience the impact of art on human brainwaves in Art On The Brain (Thursday 25 & Friday 26 July), a touring exhibition from Art Fund which hits Edinburgh’s National this weekend. It allows you to try on EEG headsets, which capture your brain data while you peruse the art and objects in the collection.
Edinburgh Printmakers are unveiling a new exhibition this weekend in Intersection: Ade Adesina (Saturday 27 – Sunday 10 November), inspired by objects, places and scenes from the artist’s African roots, British culture and encounters whilst travelling.
And finally, Comics Stripped! (until Thursday 15 August) is an exhibition first shown in Dundee exploring how comics are created and how this process has changed over time. It features art from Oor Wullie, Judge Dredd and Rupert The Bear, including printing plates, corrections and colour proofs. Check it out at the Lillie Art Gallery in Glasgow.
