MUSIC

Awkward Family Portraits

Glasgow’s Platform will be playing host to a special event from Through The Roof and Elevate who are bringing two of house music’s most sought after artists to the famous arches: Franky Rizardo and ALISHA (Saturday 12 April).

Described as a living link between Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse, Irish jazz singer Mary Coughlan (Monday 14 April) will be bewitching audiences with her soulful drawl when she takes to the stage at Edinburgh’s The Queen’s Hall.

Over at Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms they’re hosting the excellently monikered Awkward Family Portraits (Friday 11 April), a Glaswegian group known for their rockin’ roots tunes.

STAGE

Greg Davies

The Monster Trucks gang will be getting Glasgow all revved up when they return to the OVO Hydro with their brand new show Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Glow-N-Fire (Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 April) featuring all the expected petrol-fuelled fun, with an added fiery twist.

At Glasgow’s Theatre Royal they’ll be revisiting the spectacularly spooky Ghost Stories (until Saturday 12 April), the long-running West End hit created by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman.

SCREEN

Black Mirror

Hitting cinemas this weekend is Drop, from Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon. This taught thriller stars The White Lotus’s Meghann Fahy as a woman whose first date with Brandon Sklenar’s photographer turns into a nightmare when she starts receiving terrifying messages that threaten her son.

It’s proved frighteningly prescient so far, so what will Black Mirror predict when it returns for its seventh season this week? One thing’s for sure, you can expert ace turns from the likes of Rashida Jones, Will Poulter, Issa Rae, Paul Giamatti, while there’s a return to the USS Callister for Cristin Milioti.

Debuting on Apple TV+ this week, Your Friends & Neighbours stars Jon Hamm as a New York hedge fund manager who loses his job and turns to crime to maintain his lavish lifestyle. Olivia Munn and Amanda Peet co-star.

PODCASTS

New from Audible, Mel & Sue Should Know By Now reunites the comedy duo and former Bake Off presenters after nearly a decade. It uncovers the gaps in each of their knowledge with the other one filling in the blanks.

New BBC Sounds podcast When Banksy Comes To Town follows on from The Banksy Story, with presenter and Banksy superfan James Peak finding out what happens when the enigmatic artist uses your wall as a canvas.

Also on BBC Sounds, in Pop Top 10 Scott Mills and Rylan return to rank iconic music and pop culture moments with their famous friends including Anastacia, Nadine Coyle, Josh Widdicombe, Trevor Nelson and Alex Jones.

VISUAL ART

Kaleidoscope

The fifth group show from the resident artists of Edinburgh’s Out Of The Blue Drill Hall, Kaleidoscope (Friday 11 – Friday 18 April), showcases the eclectic talent of the group as it explores the theme of light colour through paintings, jewellery, tapestry, video art and more.

Over at Edinburgh’s National Galleries, Modern One, their retrospective of the artworks of Tanzania-born Everlyn Nicodemus (until Monday 26 May) continues. Featuring drawings, collages, paintings and textiles from the past four decades, including some powerful responses to racism, female oppression, and Nicodemus' own trauma and recovery.

And finally, if you fancy making your own art as a family then head to Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery And Museum for one of their Discover (Saturday 12 April) sessions, an opportunity to explore and learn from the collection and to make, create, handle and discuss objects.
