Can you believe we're almost at the end of July?! Not sure where the time has gone but we're certainly hoping that the good weather remains over the next month so we can start to (safely) get out and about again. In the meantime, there's still lots happening in the virtual sphere to keep us entertained and occupied until live events properly return.

Around Town

This week's big event is Scotland's annual music convention Wide Days, which has gone virtual this year for the first time. From today until Saturday, enjoy panels, interviews, live performances, sector meetings, social activities and a range of networking opportunities, with delegate registration for the event set at a flat-rate of £30 for everyone. Tonight and tomorrow evening, you can enjoy showcase performances from six emerging Scottish acts, Billy Got Waves x Joell., Kapil Seshasayee, Scout, MEMES, One Nine and Swim School, which have been filmed at the glorious Leith Theatre and are not to be missed.

Also kicking off today, the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival will be marking the dates of the 43rd festival with a four-day online programme. Highlights include recorded performances, content from the EJBF video archive, talks, late-night DJ sets and more, which can all be enjoyed from home.

And today, check out the next edition in the Music Is The Answer series. Edinburgh's FLY, who are responsible for running numerous events in the city as well as one of Scotland's largest music festivals, have launched the new YouTube channel to deliver a series of recorded online streams, filmed at unique locations around the country. This week's stream features Glasgow band HYYTS playing live from the Forth Bridges.

Aside from the wonderful Wide Days showcases, there are some other great streams to check out this weekend. Nick Cave recorded a solo performance back in June at London's Alexandra Palace, which features songs from his extensive back catalogue, and it premieres today at 8pm. Grab your tickets to watch now.

On Saturday and Sunday, BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival are hosting a livestream event on YouTube and Facebook, which features performances from the likes of Common, The Tallest Man on Earth, Junglepussy, Questlove and others. Also on Sunday, NPR are streaming sets from Liz Phair, Nicole Atkins, Michaela Anne, The Districts and more as part of the XPoNential Fest Weekend from 8pm BST.

As usual, we're blessed with plenty of great new music as artists continue to record and release music, despite not being able to tour. This week, we're really enjoying the new Man of Moon single 'Strangers', Zoe Graham's 'Know By Now', Land of Talk's 'Now You Want to Live in the Light', HAAi's 'Head Above the Parakeets' and Koffee's 'Lockdown'. Stage & Screen

DIVE In Cinema, the online screening series coordinated by Glasgow Short Film Festival, finishes up tomorrow. Each screening is programmed by one of the contributing exhibitors and is available on demand for 48 hours, with a new programme released at 10am every day.

This weekend, the NextUp Comedy Festival has gigs from Alice Fraser (tonight), Phil Ellis (Fri), Thanyia Moore (Sat) and Olga Koch (Sun). Marcel Lucont's Cabaret Domestique is back tomorrow at 9pm and this week's Saturday Night Live at The Stand features Vladimir McTavish, Wayne Mazadza, Liam Withnail, David Kay and Jay Lafferty. Also on Saturday from 8.30pm, the line-up for Just the Tonic Comedy Club: Working from Home includes Ross Noble, Spencer Jones, Nathan Caton, Ivan Brackenbury, Helen Bauer, Stephen Bailey and Tom Binns, with host Darrell Martin.

This week's TV highlights are A Suitable Boy, the BBC's 'first period drama with an all non-white cast' (Sun, 9pm) and Fear City: New York vs The Mafia, which is on Netflix now. In terms of film, we've really enjoyed Alice, writer-director Josephine Mackerras's leftfield take on female empowerment, which is on demand, and you can also enjoy Venice Film Festival hit Ad Astra on Sky Cinema now.
