Broadening their repertoire, if slightly, The Ennio Morricone Experience make a triumphant return to Edinburgh’s festivities with more madcap musicianship and stony-faced physical comedy. Looking every inch a troupe of holidaying boffins, the quintet (though in terms of sonic impact ‘orchestra’ is no exaggeration) again treat us to a string of stirring movie themes and dusty, atmospheric scenes, with much of the humour lying in their bewildering ability to maintain furrowed brows, and indeed whistle melodically, through their inspired and inventive live sound effects, disembodied dialogue and a precise lunacy of performance.

While the onus is on laughs as each wrangles with his arsenal of instruments and props, the musical accomplishment and sheer power of performance should not be underplayed - their rousing retelling of cinema’s first true, gritty aural landscape would be show enough for your money, that you are gifted daft hilarity into the bargain makes this another winning adventure to saddle up for.
