    Pop star du jour Winehouse’s reinvention as a Stax/Motown soul siren has proved an inspired move.

    Drugs and all that aside, Babyshambles aren’t half bad. See if Pete can hold it together.

    Sexy Brazilian electro-pop from this achingly cool São Paulo girl/boy six-piece.

    Eastern European-inspired New York Gypsy folk-punk. As mental as that sounds and more.

    High-camp and maximum musical histrionics will be order of the day as Wainwright takes the stage.

    Omaha boy wonder Conor Oberst’s Bright Eyes returned with another outright triumph this year in the shape of album Cassadaga.

    Soulful California rock crooners with one of the most distinctive sounds of the moment.
