The greater good: Neighbourgood brings festival food to the gardens
Jo Laidlaw checks out a new venture from the Neighbourgood team who are bringing their popular Stockbridge street food concept into the heart of the city for festival season
Grab your spork and pull on the elasticated trousers because there’s a brand-new festival food destination in town. Neighbourgood Gardens is a new street food hub from the people who’ve made Stockbridge’s Neighbourgood Market an essential pre-festival warm-up over the past few years. Come the end of July, they’re moving up town to Princes Street Gardens for five and a half weeks of good food, cold beer and epic tunes, all set against the iconic background of the Ross Bandstand.
The street food will roll seven days a week from 11am to 10pm, with the likes of Flame To Fork (let’s face it, nothing will put the ooh in your la la like steak frîtes in the sun) alongside wood-fired pizza from Wanderers Kneaded. Glasgow favourites Loop & Scoop will be bringing their small-batch gelato and churros combo over the M8, while Cold Town Brewery are responsible for the pints.
The gardens can sometimes feel a little detached from festival goings-on, so it’s good to see local faves Paradise Palms taking charge of the tunes: they’ll be behind the decks most evenings to get the crowd going, plus there’s also a mini-series of gigs planned for the bandstand. Well-priced tickets are now available for folk ensemble Scottish Fish and the cross-genre Tinderbox Orchestra, with more performances to be confirmed.
