The Pin have more talent in their pinkie fingers than many aspiring comedians – in fact, many mere mortals – have in their entire body. With minimal props, they achieve a stand-out hour of absurd sketch comedy, cleverly bumbling, deconstructing, rewriting, rewinding and time-travelling through a set of very excellent and very funny stuff.

One for fans of Vic and Bob or the Pajama Men, Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen expertly explore various characters (including some invisible ones) such as a misbehaving medium who flirts with someone in the spirit world, a voodoo priest and a ventriloquist with his squirmy dummy. They ham up their own characters too; at one point supposedly live-improvving to disguise a scene about a hellish ex-girlfriend in the front row, or covering up their own close friendships with each other’s fathers.

The facial expressions and range of tittering, giggling, fey mannerisms that Ashenden coyly produces deserve some kind of Fringe award all of their own, while Owen has the ability to create onstage infinity loops with nothing but a laptop and a brilliant mind. Theirs is a glorious synergy of invention and imagination which gets two very enthusiastic thumbs-up.
