The Revel Puck Circus: The Wing Scuffle Spectacular circus review – Insane acrobatics and expert nonsense
A high-energy high-stakes circus that makes for a fun Fringe debut

This east London acrobatic arrangement put on quite a show from the off. They can be found punting popcorn and candyfloss on the stage (£3 each: they have a card reader) as their audience files in. An intricate theatrical set up-that involves a giant marble and domino set kicks off an outstanding opening number (the Glee version of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’’).

An impressive teeterboard trio, some insane acrobatics and a running sketch involving a clumsy clown and tiny lion on wheels prove that this circus troupe can really bring the nonsense. An expertly chosen soundtrack is complete with an incredible Cyr-wheel solo to KT Tunstall’s ‘Black Horse And The Cherry Tree.’
Their most precarious trick involves all eight team members balancing on a huge wooden plank atop a giant tyre. With limbs flailing, they try to keep their self-made seesaw from tipping them all onto the floor below. The clowns pull out all the stops as their highest flyer clambers on top of her comrade, pushing past what we usually see in a Fringe circus. All fans of physical theatre would be sorry to miss this group of entertainers.
The Revel Puck Circus: The Wing Scuffle Spectacular, Underbelly Circus Hub, until 26 August, 4.10pm.
