Irish comedy rappers The Rubberbandits are a Youtube phenomenon: their song 'Horse Outside' has been seen over 10million times. So how do you go about translating internet notoriety into a full festival set? Not one would argue by playing all your best internet videos on a giant screen and performing below them.

The show starts off promisingly: the Bandits bound on stage wearing carrier bags on their heads like Mexican wrestling masks, creating an intensely high-energy atmosphere. As they launch into their opening track it’s clear that musically and lyrically they know what they are doing. The songs mix a variety of styles from R&B to rave with even some folk influences thrown in. Like Goldie Lookin Chain before them they are more than just a novelty act with a level of wit and satire delivered in their local vernacular.

As the show wears on though the limitations of their between songs banter becomes apparent and things start to flag. The biggest issue though is the overuse of the video background which manages to negate the presence of the duo rather than enhance it, leaving you with the idea you have just been watching the internet in a roomful of people you don’t know.
