There's something different about The Sunshine Underground. Maybe it's their strange mix of electronica, grimy bass and echoing vocals. Maybe it's their somewhat unorthodox recording methods (they once put drummer Matthew Gwilt in a tent to get a 'big stadium rock bellow'). Whatever this difference is, it's refreshing.

Opening the first sell-out gig of their latest tour with The Same Old Ghosts, TSU are a ball of barely contained adrenalin on stage, easily as excited and enthusiastic as their expectant audience. It's clear this performance has been highly anticipated, with fan favourites 'Wake Up', 'The Way It Is' and 'Borders' causing various drink spillages and crushed audience members in the midst of the jumping crowd.

The Leeds trio also treated revellers to some new tracks from their forthcoming third album, including 'I.I.O.Y' and 'Neutralize' – the latter's intro reminiscent of Rui da Silva's 90s dance anthem 'Touch Me' - which seem to incorporate higher vocals and trance-beats with their usual dirty bass and indie set-up.

Despite the absence of former bassist Davey Smith, the band can still blow a crowd away, with ever-popular final track 'I Aint Losing Any Sleep' putting the proverbial cherry on the cake. Then, after an uproarious encore of 'Put You In Your Place', they were gone. To the after-party, that is.
