Star Partners and Hummingbird Productions have announced a sequel to the 1946 Christmas classic

Star Partners and Hummingbird Productions have announced they'll be making a sequel to Frank Capra's 1946 Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life (as reported by Variety). Entitled It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, the film will feature the return of some cast members from the original, including Karolyn Grimes (who played Zuzu Bailey, pictured above right) as an angel who must show George Bailey's grandson (also called George) what life would have been like had he never been born. The surviving actors who played the Bailey children, Jimmy Hawkins and Carol Coombs, are also in discussions to resume their original roles.

Writers Bob Farnsworth (president of Hummingbird) and Martha Bolton (whose credits mainly consist of a string of Bob Hope specials) have already turned in a screenplay, but we've had a few ideas of our own...

It's a Wonderful Afterlife

In an act of fateful symmetry, George Bailey Jr (Vince Vaughn) finds himself about to jump off the Bedford Falls bridge on Christmas Eve, just as his grandfather had over 60 years ago. Unfortunately, Bailey's bumbling guardian angel Larry (Owen Wilson) doesn't make it down from Heaven in time, and George's suicide goes as planned. Can Larry persuade George that life on Earth was really all that special – especially after George has had a taste of the heavenly good life? [Not to be confused with the 2010 comedy of the same name].

It's a Wonderful Life 2: The Haunting of Bedford Falls

A young family move from the big city into the picturesque old Bailey house in Bedford Falls, unaware of the property's dark history. Will the parents (Patrick Wilson and Sharni Vinson) be able to discover the secret of their new home before the ghost of George Bailey (CGI James Stewart) takes out his anger on their children?

It's a Wonderful Spliff

Pretty much the same plot as It's a Wonderful Life, but in place of James Stewart's romance with Donna Reed, it's a stoner bromance between Seth Rogen and James Franco. Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong to cameo as bickering stoner angels.

To the Wonderful Tree of Life

Terrence Malick directs an immersive, poetic, existential cinematic masterpiece about life, love, suicide, family, Heaven, snow and dreams. It's hard to say what exactly happens in the plot, as there isn't a narrative as such, but there is a 20 minute interlude about dinosaurs.

It's a Wonderful Life 2: Live Wonderfuller

As a freak blizzard closes in around Bedford Falls, a group of highly trained terrorists (led by the grandson of grouchy old Mr Potter, played by Willem Dafoe) take control of the town and hold it to ransom. It's up to George Bailey Jr (Jason Statham) and his wisecracking angel sidekick Gabe (Chris Tucker) to go back in time and make sure the younger Potter was never born.

It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story is scheduled for release in time for Christmas 2015.
