Walk the Line has been named the best music biopic in a poll of more than 2,000 film fans.

The survey from online DVD firm Lovefilm found fans most rate the movie starring Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash and Reece Witherspoon as June Carter.

Witherspoon won a best actress Oscar in 2006 for her performance as the country star’s long-suffering wife.

Eminem’s 8 Mile came second in the poll, with Mozart story Amadeus and Jamie Foxx’s take on Ray Charles at third and fourth respectively.

The Doors, in which Val Kilmer played singer Jim Morrison, was voted fifth.

A spokesman for Lovefilm.com said: ‘This poll showcases the very best the genre has to offer – whether it be a portrayal of a foul-mouthed rapper, a Motown legend or a classical composer.’
