Filmmaker Laura Poitras' Academy Award-winning doc available to stream

**UPDATE**
Unfortunately it seems Thought Maybe were running an unapproved stream of CitizenFour, so we've taken down the links. However, you can find screening times at our listing page for the film and linked below, and find out more at the official site. CitizenFour also recently played on Channel 4 so we're sure it'll pop up again soon on your preferred VOD channels.

**Original story**:
This year's Best Documentary Oscar went to the critically-acclaimed CitizenFour, which captures one of the most important news stories of our time by one of the people who was there as it happened.

It was through filmmaker Laura Poitras that US National Security Agency whistleblower, Edward Snowden, made initial contact about leaking the US government's illegal collection of information from virtually everyone in the largest surveillence initiative in history. From there Poitras and Snowden teamed up with Glenn Greenwald and Ewen MacAskill of The Guardian in a small hotel room in Hong Kong and started a series of reports that would shock the world.

Having won the Academy Award while Snowden lives as a permanent fugitive in Russia (of all places!), CitizenFour is now reaching an even wider audience and has been made available to stream for free on the website Thought Maybe (h/t /Film).

We recommend preparing tin foil hats, holding your copy of 1984 close and unplugging all non-essential electronic devices before proceeding.
