Watch: National Theatre At Home – A Streetcar Named Desire

The Young Vic's production of Tennessee Williams' iconic play to stream next week as part of the National Theatre's online programme
The National Theatre At Home series continues with the Young Vic's production of A Streetcar Named Desire, broadcast online via the National Theatre's YouTube channel on Thu 21 May at 7pm. The production stars Gillian Anderson as the tragic Blanche DuBois, and The Crown's Vanessa Kirby as her sister, Stella.
One of American playwright Tennessee Williams' most renowned works, A Streetcar Named Desire follows the slow mental deteriorations of Blanche, a formerly wealthy Southern belle, when she's forced to leave the family estate and live with her sister, Stella, and Stella's brutal husband Stanley Kowalski. The Young Vic's 2014 production, directed by Benedict Andrews, re-imagines the story in the modern day, and received widespread critical acclaim upon its debut, particularly for Anderson's performance as DuBois.
Watch the Young Vic's A Streetcar Named Desire from 7pm on Thu 21 May for one week.
With theatres around the UK and beyond remaining closed as lockdown continues, companies and venues are doing their bit to keep audiences at home connected and entertained as best as possible. London's National Theatre announced their National Theatre at Home programme last month, giving audiences the weekly opportunity to enjoy world-class theatre while the venue is closed. And with huge numbers tuning in every week, the initiative has been a great success. So far, we've been treated to streams of One Man, Two Guvnors starring James Cordon, Jane Eyre, Treasure Island, Twelfth Night, Frankenstein starring Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch, Antony & Cleopatra, starring Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo, and most recently, Inua Williams' Barber Shop Chronicles.
Keep up with the National Theatre's weekly streams on their YouTube channel.
