The National Theatre at Home series continues this week with the broadcast of Les Blancs, Lorraine Hansberry's brave, illuminating work, adapted by Robert Nemiroff.

Debuting on Broadway in 1970, Hansberry's final play depicts the plights of colonialism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Set in an unnamed African colony as the country teeters on the edge of civil war, Tshembe, the son of a tribal leader, finds himself caught up in the revolution as he returns home from England for his father's funeral.

Directed by Yaël Farber (Mies Julie, Nirbhaya) and filmed at the National Theatre in 2016, the cast includes Danny Sapani as Tshembe, alongside Sheila Atim, Charlie Morris, Siân Phillips, Sidney Cole and Gary Beadle.

With theatres around the UK and beyond remaining closed as lockdown continues, companies and venues are doing their bit to keep audiences at home connected and entertained as best as possible. London's National Theatre announced their National Theatre at Home programme last month, giving audiences the weekly opportunity to enjoy world-class theatre while the venue is closed. And with huge numbers tuning in every week, the initiative has been a great success. So far, we've been treated to streams of One Man, Two Guvnors starring James Cordon, Jane Eyre, Treasure Island, Twelfth Night, Frankenstein starring Jonny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch, Antony & Cleopatra, starring Ralph Fiennes and Sophie Okonedo, Inua Williams' Barber Shop Chronicles, the Young Vic's production of A Streetcar Named Desire, starring Gillian Anderson, James Graham's This House, Coriolanus, starring Tom Hiddleston, Alan Bennett's The Madness of George III, Small Island, and most recently, A Midsummer Night's Dream.
