Remember, remember, the fifth of November at Gosforth RFC, where the Broadway West Playing Fields are host to Newcastle Round Table's bonfire night celebrations (Sat 2 Nov, 6pm). There's a range of attractions and refreshments available and all proceeds go to charity. Still in Gosforth, racing lovers can enjoy the All-Weather Championships racing and a dazzling display after the last race at the Fireworks And Funfair Racenight (Fri 1 Nov, 8pm).

Further south and across the river in Gateshead, more than 30,000 people visit Saltwell Park every year to watch their huge fireworks display (Sat 2 Nov, 7.30pm). There's also a children's fairground, a bonfire and live music performances from some of the North East's best emerging talent, and booking is essential. At Blaydon RFC (Sat 2 Nov) there is a fairground and food to enjoy. The bonfire is lit at 6.15pm before the main event at 7.30pm.

Over in North Tyneside you can celebrate bonfire night on the day itself at Segedunum Roman Fort, Baths and Museum with the Wallsend Fireworks Display (Tue 5 Nov). The museum and cafe are open for free from 4pm, with the display at 6.30pm, so head down early (and booking is essential). At Whitney Park in Benton, there's the Annual Blue Flames Centre Fireworks Spectacular (Tue 5 Nov) with stalls, hot food, children's fairground rides and bars. Also on bonfire night, the Novocastrians RFC will put together a fireworks display for the entire family, with drink and food available (7pm).

Tynemouth Cricket Club (Sat 9 Nov) will be hosting a fireworks display for all the family with fairground rides, food stalls, bars and a raffle. Keeping within the sports world but moving on to soccer, Rutherford AFC are hosting a Bonfire and Fireworks event with a DJ running a disco until 11pm (Sat 2 Nov). On the coast, South Shields Fireworks Display marks the end of the season at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park (Sun 3 Nov) with two free displays to enjoy, the first at 6.30pm and the second at 8pm.

In the south, the skies of Durham are brought to life with an explosion of colour as St Cuthbert's Hospice hosts a fireworks extravaganza (Sat 2 Nov). Demonstrating the people's love for all things pyrotechnic is Stanley Fireworks (Sat 2 Nov), which is supported by funding from Stanley Town Council. The event returns in 2019 with entertainment, music and a 'spooky spectacular' theme. Also in Stanley, Beamish Hall marks the historic moment of Guy Fawkes' arrest in 1605 with a bonfire and fireworks display (Sun 3--Tue 5 Nov). Enjoy food and drink from the stalls, interactive theatre, street performers and more (but hurry, the only ticket availability left is for Mon 4 Nov).
