Who is playing Edinburgh Hogmanay 2022?

Edinburgh has long been considered the home of Hogmanay, with thousands of revellers descending on the city every year to enjoy music, fireworks and the communal welcoming of the year ahead.

After three years of pandemic-induced darkness over the capital, celebrations are coming back with a bang for 2022/23 with three days worth of live music, funfair attractions, DJ sets and food and drink stands.  Find out this year’s Edinburgh Hogmanay offering and how to get tickets now.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor

Night Afore

Getting things started at Princes Street Gardens on Friday 30 December is the Night Afore celebrations with Forth 1 Radio, featuring performances from pop royalty Sophie Ellis-Bexter and Scottish new wavers Altered Images. Hosted by Forth 1 DJ Boogie, this family-friendly event will run from 7.30pm–10.30pm with tickets starting from £32.50.

Ellis-Bexter, best known for songs like ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’ and more recently the Kitchen Disco series she ran on her social media channels over lockdown, says: ‘Edinburgh’s New Year celebrations are legendary, and I can’t wait to get the party started with new friends from all over the world. Dancing shoes and singing voices are a must for everyone!’

Tickets for the Night Afore are on sale now.

Concert In The Gardens

The crème de la crème of this year’s Hogmanay celebrations is the Concert In The Gardens, where revellers can bring in the New Year with headliners the Pet Shop Boys. Playing a selection of their greatest hits, including songs like ‘Always On My Mind’, ‘West End Girls’ and ‘It’s A Sin’, the synth-pop duo’s captivating live shows (as seen at Glastonbury earlier this year) prove the pair are as timeless as their music.

Tickets for Concert In The Gardens are on sale now and start from £70.

Street Party

The iconic Street Party gives party-goers all of the atmosphere, music and view of the incredible firework display at a lower price point starting at £27.50 per ticket. Street Party ticket holders can access the funfair attractions, food and drink stands and participate in the Midnight Moment with LED wristbands that will light up all of West Princes Street to the sound of the Pet Shop Boys playing in the gardens below.

Hamish Hawke

Final Fling

At this stage 2023 may be upon us, but the excitement most certainly doesn’t end here. Making its debut this year is the Final Fling concert, featuring an array of Scottish talent including indie ‘it’ boy Hamish Hawke, folk outfit Elephant Sessions and folk pop headliners Tide Lines. This genre-spanning display of homegrown talent takes place in Princes Street Gardens from 4pm on Sunday 1 January and draws this year’s Hogmanay celebrations to a close.

Tickets for Final Fling begin at £27.50 and are on sale now.

Elephant Sessions

So what’s it to be? A boogie with Sophie Ellis-Bextor, a night with the Pet Shop Boys, a day-time concert featuring the sounds of Scotland, or perhaps all of the above? There is something for everyone this Hogmanay to ensure you begin 2023 in style.
