Wild natural deodorant review: 'A welcome addition to my morning routine'

Stay fresh during lockdown and be good to the earth with this long-lasting, cruelty-free deodorant
Wild deodorant review: one year since making the switch to natural deodorant — read the latest review (March 2021)
The switch to natural deodorant is not an easy one. There are plenty of homemade products that sure, smell nice and are neatly packaged, but don't hold their own when it comes to being sweat-proof. Changing to natural deodorant means changing your armpit's 'ecosystem' for a short while. It's not an instant switch and most people notice the sweat more at first. It's tempting to pick up your old roll-on, but it's best to stick it out for 14-days so your body can adjust. After all, a positive change for the environment and your body is worth a lot more.
Wild is a London-based natural deodorant company that set out on a mission to provide an effective, long-lasting deodorant that contains none of the harmful ingredients (like aluminium) that mainstream brands pack into their products. Using natural ingredients like coconut, sunflower and shea, they've done just that. The result: a cruelty-free, vegan deodorant that is free of aluminium and parabens. That's a lot of brownie points from the off, but wait for it... With the launch of their new design, Wild have also become the world's first single-use plastic-free natural deodorant with compostable refills.
Each deodorant kit is neatly packaged in a letterbox-sized recyclable box and when opened up, first impressions of the new design were great. The aluminium holder is light and simple to use. It comes apart easily and the compostable deodorant refill slots in snuggly. Despite seeming oversized at first, the design fits perfectly to the armpit, giving full coverage in just a few glides. Its twistable base pushes up the refill, which can be retracted after use. This beats the old push up cardboard holders of most natural deodorants (which often don't budge!). It's an all-round slick design that works well and looks good on a bathroom shelf. If there must be a negative point, it's that you'll have to occasionally clean the top of the case to avoid buildup.
After three weeks of use, Wild has been effective throughout the day and during intense exercise for myself, an 'average sweater', (if there ever was such a term) with no complaints. It was a relief to know the deodorant was more than just a swish design and is, in fact, a reliable product. The deodorant refill comes in a small cardboard cartridge available in scents Orange Zest, Coconut Dreams, Mint Fresh and Rose Blush. Each refill is priced at £6 each or £5 when you subscribe to their rolling delivery service. A little goes a long way so it's sure to last you months. I tried the Mint Fresh deodorant and the smell is subtle and refreshing.
In the midst of a climate crisis that is being overlooked by so many, it's refreshing to see brands like Wild taking amazing steps to change its industry. Wild proves that an essential bathroom product that is needed every day can be waste-free, vegan, cruelty-free whilst also being effective and affordable. Wild deodorant has become a welcome addition to my morning routine.
