Scottish actor Jimmy Chisholm, known for his roles in Low Winter Sun, Festival and frequent appearances in Taggart, is the star of the winning film from the first-ever Edinburgh 48 Hour Film Project.

In the film, entitled Travel Plans and directed by Lee Archer, Chisholm plays Robert Darling, a Restauranteur. The film was screened at Edinburgh's Cameo cinema on May 21 to a sold-out audience,

The competition saw entries from 24 teams of over 100 filmmakers and featured List Film Editor Paul Dale amongst the judging panel. The rules required that the film be made in just one weekend. The competition required that each film had to include the same character (Robert or Roberta Darling, Restauranteur), a prop (a CD in this case), and a line of dialogue ("Is that the best you’ve got?"). These requirements were only announced seconds before the 48 hour allotted time began.

Lee Archer, director of Travel Plans, was as daunted as all the other contestants in the competition. "I registered and then started panicking. I had no cast and no idea what to do."

Asking a friend of a friend who owned a modelling agency if they had any models who wanted to be actors on their books, he was pleased when Jimmy Chisholm, known for his roles in Taggart and films such as Mrs. Brown, showed up.

Archer's previous film work includes some editing of commercials but Travel Plans is the biggest film he’s directed so far. He hopes to take his wife and two small children to the International finals, which will be held at a major American film festival in 2009.

For winning Best Film, Archer received Avid Media Composer (film editing software worth £1,822) and the chance to represent Scotland in the International Finals.

The 48 Hour Film Project takes place annually in over 60 cities with over 30,000 filmmakers participating, but this is the first time the event has taken place in Scotland.
