Jamie Primrose 'Ethereal Light'

6 Jun 2025 - 14 Jun 2025

Jamie Primrose is one of Scotland’s prominent contemporary artists, having achieved critical acclaim throughout his impressive career. With past sell-out solo collections in Edinburgh and London since 2003, his skilful original artworks continually in demand by a discerning, loyal and expanding clientele in the UK and beyond. The collectable painter now showcases his latest stunning offering of over 50 gorgeous oil paintings. Living in Marchmont, he is continually inspired by the beauty of the Meadows nearby, with an in-depth knowledge of its pathways and natural elements, throughout the ephemeral seasons. Initially – fascinated by the transient Scottish light at dawn and dusk – Primrose depicts soft pink spring cherry blossom trees, with glistening early morning and late afternoon sunlight streaming through beautiful painterly flourishes. His trade-mark impressionistic style shimmers through the calming warmth of delicate, uplifting colour in his fleeting, intricate brushstrokes. Next, onto a luxuriant haze of abundant autumnal shades, firstly the emerald remnants of a lush summer, then to rich russet, umber and ochre hues against pastel violet skies. The collectable painter creates a timeless tranquillity, focusing on sparkling luminosity through the leaves. His evocative oils draw the viewer into his ethereal, dream-like world – with shadows and patterns of light dancing across the Meadows’ paths. A master at capturing natural motifs with a deep sense of awareness of the area, Primrose moves onto glistening snow on the parklands and surrounding Marchmont streets – bathed in crisp, clear winter light, offering a soft-hued palette. Finally, this meditative journey is contrasted with an atmospheric twilight series – portraying vibrant, exuberant skies beyond sculptural branches, the bold silhouette of tenements revealing the first warm glow of lights. This collection represents a fine balance of light and shade, highlighting the wondrous ever-changing seasons and beauty of nature. It will delight and inspire and is not to be missed. Private Views: Friday 6th June, 6pm – 8.30pm & Saturday 7th June 10am – 4pm.
