The List

Mill on the Fleet

The Mill on the Fleet is a restored 18th century cotton mill. It is now an exhibition centre with core displays on the history and heritage of Gatehouse and the Fleet Valley. It has an annual programme of temporary exhibitions in two galleries focusing on heritage and natural history, and contemporary arts and crafts. The Mill also houses the Gatehouse Tourist Information Service, has a popular café for refreshments and light meals, a gift shop, and a bookshop specialising in new and secondhand books. The popular Mill Sessions musical events are held here, as well as other events and concerts throughout the season. The Mill is in a beautiful setting on the banks of the River Fleet and in suitable weather diners can eat on the riverside terrace overlooking the river.

Ten years ago, my best friend Tom was diagnosed with heart cancer and given three months to live. His last wish was to have a full Viking burial. So I gave him one. Team Viking tells the remarkable, hilarious and heart-lifting story of how I actually managed to give my best mate the send-off he wanted. Blending storytelling, music, comedy and even a genuine Viking helmet, its a comic ode to death, friendship and the beautiful absurdity of life. The show premiered in a tiny meeting room at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe and became a breakthrough hit: critically acclaimed, completely sold out, and the beginning of my career as a contemporary storyteller. Since then it has toured hundreds of times across the UK and beyond. Now, ten years on, this modern classic returns for a special anniversary edition - as funny, raw and joyous as ever. Team Viking is brought to you by Salam & Holohan The Stage Joyous - heartlifting and incredibly moving. Wee Review Sometimes stories are better than real life. Fest Real grief, still raw; real heart, still healing A reminder that life really is for the living.
