Weekday Wonderings: Tour of St Michael’s Church with Andy Skinner
Weekday Wonderings is a weekday initiative from Southampton City Council Cultural Services, exploring the rich history and heritage of the town. Each session is different, but it could be a talk, tour or something entirely different! Look out for exciting activities on different weekdays! St Michael’s Church is the oldest surviving building in Southampton and has been central to many of the incredible events in the city’s past. In this special guided tour, join historian Andy Skinner in exploring the ins and outs of this incredible sacred space. From the Norman Conquest, to the terrifying French Raid of 1338 and the Second World War, this truly is one of the most important buildings in Southampton. There will be outside elements of the tour and uneven floors, so please wear suitable footwear. The tour will begin in St Michael’s Square (outside Tudor House and near St Michael’s Church). Wire Tree Workshop with Stephanie Rose
Learn how to manipulate wire and make a beautiful miniature tree! There will be a selection of semi-precious gemstone beads to choose from to adorn your tree (such as rose quartz, amethyst, carnelian, green aventurine and more). Beads of other types, plus a range of coloured wires, and beach stones to form the base, will also be provided. This is a relaxing craft where, just using hand tools you’ll achieve some stunning results.

Discover the blood-curdling account of the King's Guard who died in battle, the chilling story behind Francis Cartwright who lost his life in the French raids, the torture of those involved in the Southampton plots and many more. Our ghosts will guide you around the historic streets of Southampton sharing haunting accounts from hot spots including Southampton Vaults, Tudor House, Westgate, The Red Lion and many more... Prepare to be entertained on Southampton's number one ghost tour. This is a theatrical event and takes place outside. The tour includes live actors. Southampton Ghost Tours won three semi-final awards and two bronze final awards for Best Event and Here to there tour at the Southampton Star Awards. We were also awarded the Certificate of Excellence Award by TripAdvisor.
Home Education Discovering History Sessions: Southampton Through Time (6yrs+)
Our new Home Education Discovering History sessions are designed with home educating families in mind and aimed at children aged 6yrs and older. Each session draws on our rich collection of stories and objects and children and adults alike will get the opportunity to discover amazing things about the history of Southampton… and beyond! Each ticket is for one young person and one adult – if you’re bringing along more adults please book an extra space for £3 extra. Admission to the museum is included on the day of the session, so you can make the most of your day with us! This activity will take place in our lovely education room. It can get a bit tight for space though, so if you are able to leave pushchairs outside we’d be very grateful! For our FIRST EVER session we will be exploring the rich history of Southampton, from prehistory, through to the Romans, Saxons, medieval, Victorian and modern era in a whistle-stop tour of Southampton’s past! Weekday Wonderings: In the Footsteps of the Friars Walking Tour with Andy Skinner
Weekday Wonderings is a weekday initiative from Southampton City Council Cultural Services, exploring the rich history and heritage of the town. Each session is different, but it could be a talk, tour or something entirely different! Look out for exciting activities on different weekdays! Southampton has one of the oldest medieval urban water systems in England, in a story that began nearly 800 years ago. Join your guide, Andy Skinner in searching for the sometimes-elusive source of Southampton’s medieval water system in this fascinating and unique guided walk. The linear guided walk of approximately 3 miles will begin in St Michael’s Square and finish at the Conduit Head, stopping at points of importance along the way, including the remains of the Friary, Holy Rood Church, a step inside Conduit House and visiting Conduit Head itself. This walking tour could get muddy so wear sensible apparel. Unfortunately this tour isn’t suitable for people with mobility issues. The tour will last approximately 2 hours. In and Around Tudor House Photo Walk and Tour
Take some time out and join us for a relaxed photo walk and tour in and around Tudor House and Garden. You’ll hear stories of Southampton’s past and use photography to explore some of the City’s more unusual and hidden spaces. Please bring along a camera, anything from a phone camera to pro DSLR or even an old polaroid – whatever suits you! The walk is open to everyone age 12yrs+. No previous photography experience is needed. Regrettably this tour is unsuitable for people with mobility concerns. Torchlight Tour with Andy Skinner: Spooky & Scary Southampton
Venture into Hamtun Town… if you dare! Join your guide Andy Skinner in exploring the hidden histories of Southampton by venturing into vaults and scale the town’s ancient walls while discovering tales of war, plague, villainy and ghosts! Ghosts of Tudor House Tour with Emily Pierce
Join historian and paranormal enthusiast Emily Pierce for an exploration of Tudor House visiting the sites of reported hauntings at Tudor House, from the attic to the cellar, and discussing recent research into these potentially ghostly encounters. The tour will take us into areas of the building normally not accessible to the public. Please note that, due to the age of the building, parts of the tour are only accessible via steps and therefore may be inaccessible for those with limited mobility.
