Historical Dance Class

Historical Dance Class

10 Jun 2026 - 1 Jul 2026

Historical Dance classes explore Renaissance Dance, Baroque Dance and Regency Dance and Beyond. The Renaissance classes will focus on John Playford's country dances and the Italian Court Dances of the 15th and 16th Century, recreated from the original manuscripts of the time. The Baroque classes will explore contredances, ballroom dances and theatrical dances created in the late 17th and early 18th centuries in England and Europe, recreated from the Beauchamp-Feuillet notations. Regency and Beyond classes will explore the popular ballroom dances such as Cotillons and Quadrilles from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, progressing on to dances of the Victorian era and through to 20th century dances such as The Charleston and Lindy Hop. Each class will begin with warm up exercises and technical sequences that will develop throughout the weeks to build strength and technical ability. The second part of the class will then explore the choreographed and notated dances of the period focusing on poise and musicality as well as social interaction and enjoyment of the dances.
Beginners Ballet

Beginners Ballet

10 Jun 2026 - 1 Jul 2026

Classical ballet is steeped in traditions of elegance, grace and musicality, but is also excellent for improving core strength, flexibility, balance, posture, alignment and stamina. Come along and work on your technique, or simply lose yourself in the style and music. Classes start with barre work: strengthening exercises using the ballet barre for support. We then move into the centre to improve balance and stability whilst also developing performance skills. Exercises are built up gently over the weeks. This class is designed for those with little or no experience of classical ballet.
Improvers Ballet

Improvers Ballet

10 Jun 2026 - 1 Jul 2026

For those who have some experience of classical ballet, these class are designed to build on your existing knowledge and technique through more challenging barre work than the Beginners class and more complex centre work to develop physical and interpretative skills. Come along and work on your technique and performance in a relaxed and fun environment. Classes follow the usual structure of barre work, centre practice, allegro and grand allegro with exercises that are built up gently over the weeks to focus on strength, stamina, control and balance as well as interpretation and musicality. This class is designed for those with some previous experience of classical ballet.
