Widely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world, his interpretations of traditional songs are masterpieces of storytelling. Martin has been nominated an astounding 31 times in the 15 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards -- more than any other performer -- with 12 nominations for Musician of The Year, which he has won twice. 2008 saw an incredible five nominations for 'Prodigal Son' and two wins, whilst in 2010 he had an unprecedented six nominations for his CD, True Stories and a win for Best Traditional Track, 'Sir Patrick Spens'. Grateful Fred welcomes Brooks Williams; one of those select few 'how on earth does he do it? artists. He can sing. He can write. And, man oh man, can he play guitar. Cambridge UK-based, Statesboro, Georgia US-born, admired by both listeners and fellow musicians, Brooks Williams has been a leading light on the acoustic music scene for three decades. FATEA says his performances show the greatest level of true expertise. Listed as one of the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists, his guitar skills are evident as he effortlessly slides in and out of folk, blues and country. Williams left his Georgia home in his late teens and moved to Boston at the height of the 1990s acoustic music renaissance. He did his apprenticeship in the bars and clubs in New York and New England and cut his teeth supporting artists like Shawn Colvin, Chris Smither, Rory Block, Leo Kottke, Odetta, Billy Bragg and Taj Mahal. His first album, North From Statesboro, caught the attention of The Washington Post and National Public Radio, which set the ball rolling and Williams never looked back. People took notice and acoustic music radio played him from the very beginning, including WUMB-FM in Boston, where Williams is one of their Top 100 Artists Of All-Time. In subsequent years he has released a staggering 34 recordings in 35 years for labels like Green Linnet Records, Solid Air Records, Signature Sounds and Reveal. Never one to shy away from the road, the list of venues and festivals Brooks Williams has played is staggering. Newport, Winnipeg, Cropredy, Cambridge, Philadelphia, are but a few of many. Alongside his solo shows, Brooks Williams regularly performs with a host of fellow-musicians. One such collaboration is his duo with fiddler Aaron Catlow. With three albums under their belt (Ghost Owl, short-listed 2021 Instrumental Album Of The Year, Ready For The Times, and Greens And Blues),Americana UKsays the duo is live music at its best. Alice Howe and Freebo have undeniable chemistry. The Bijou welcomes you to an incredible new show, "The Ghost of a Sailor's Talking Blues", starring the amazing musician Pete Morton! A new show of singing together, storytelling and comedy in the style of the Talking Blues. The Talking blues was a style made famous by Woody Guthrie and later by Bob Dylan on his early recordings. The show is a freewheeling unruly mix of comedy and storytelling, interspersed with popular singalong chorus from the last 400 years! The ghost is a 17th century sailor who died in a shipwreck. He now spends eternity in a harbour pub influencing the patrons with silliness, satire and song...

Bella Gaffney is a British singer-songwriter, guitar and banjo player who has established herself as a prominent figure in the folk music scene. Born and raised in Bradford in West Yorkshire, Bella's love for music began at a young age, when she would visit her local folk club, The Topic. In addition to her solo work, Bella is also a member of the popular folk band, The Magpies. The band has been described as "effervescent" by The Sunday Times and has won over audiences across the UK with their lively performances and infectious energy. Bella's contributions to the band have been instrumental in their success, and she continues to be a sought-after musician in the folk music scene. Kate Griffin is a clawhammer banjo player, singer and composer emerging on the UK folk and world scene. Described as one of the top banjo players in the country by virtuoso Dan Walsh, her innovative banjo style combines both traditional UK and American folk, whilst also placing the banjo in a contemporary setting. In 2018 Kate formed award winning global folk collective MISHRA, alongside musical partner Ford Collier, with their debut album released autumn 2019. As of 2021 she also performs as part of critically acclaimed transatlantic neo-folk band THE MAGPIES. Kate is a fellow of international music exchange programme MAKING TRACKS 2020 with plans for future international collaboration, recently receiving a grant from EFDSS to explore collaboration with a Mozambique artist.

The Bijou are very excited to welcome Atilla The Stockbroker to the Bijou Sessions! Punk poet, latterly dub poet, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Attila the Stockbroker exploded into public consciousness in 1982-3 via two John Peel sessions and a Melody Maker front cover and is now celebrating 44 years earning a living doing what he loves. So far: nearly 4000 gigs in 24 countries, some 20 CD/s LPs, eight books of poems, his autobiography Arguments Yard (Cherry Red Books, 2015) and his collected works Heart on my Sleeve (Cherry Red Books, 2021) His latest album, endorsed by his old friend, the now sadly departed Ben Zephaniah, is a dub poetry collection 40 Years In Rhyme with rhythms from Kingsley Salmon and Whats Left Dub, and his previous one, 2018s Restoration Tragedy recorded with his band Barnstormer 1649, combines early music and punk a lifelong ambition with tales of the English Revolution of 1649. And Finnish fan-owned phoenix club Tampere United, whose fans were inspired by Brighton fans successful battle to save their club and Attilas role in it, have just published Attilas new book A Lifetime of Football Writing (Poems, Songs & Stories) Attilas current solo performance comprises fiery, satirical, political and personal spoken word, dub poetry, acoustic songs and early music punk on ancient instruments. He really doesnt sound like anything else. Hes very prolific and his material is very, very up to date. Last year he did a 14 day run at the Edinburgh PBH Free Fringe called 14 Days, 14 Completely Different Shows. That's 14 hours of completely original material, no poem or song performed more than once in the whole run. He reckons he has at least double that to choose from!
