The Black Watch Castle and Museum is a 5 star multi-award winning visitor attraction located in the beautiful city of Perth, Scotland. The venue comprises The Black Watch Museum, Castle Bistro and Gift Shop. We also run an interesting a nd varied calendar of events for all ages. The Black Watch Museum is housed within the historic Balhousie Castle, the origins of which are said to date back to the 12th century. A visit to the ancestral Home of The Black Watch brings the history of Scotland’s oldest Highland Regiment’s to life, through artefacts, paintings, photographs, personal stories and interactive displays. The Castle Bistro provides an informal dining experience with professional, friendly table service. Our seasonal menu offers an appealing selection of meals, snacks, soups, desserts, Sunday lunch and afternoon tea created with quality ingredients of local provenance. The popular Castle Gift Shop showcases a lovely range of quality gifts, regimental memorabilia and branded products with an emphasis on providing an enjoyable shopping experience within a Scottish Castle. Bring your young explorers along to our Drop-In Crafts – Summer at the Castle for a morning of creative fun, discovery, and hands-on history! These relaxed, family-friendly sessions are designed especially for children aged 5–7 and must be attended with an accompanying adult. Just drop in between 10:00 am and 11:30 am. Workshop Dates and Themes: 15th July – Battlefield Beacons Craft your own decorative lamp using jars and materials while discovering how Moonlight Batteries used light on the battlefield during WW2. 22nd July – Music Makers Make your own musical trumpets from cardboard and drums from tin cans as you explore the history of music in the military. 29th July – Secret Messages Learn about secret wartime communication by creating invisible ink and wax messages, then use beads and string to try out Morse code. These sessions are perfect for younger children and their grown-ups to enjoy a fun and engaging morning out—combining creativity with a little bit of history!

Looking for a fun, creative, and educational way to keep your child engaged this summer? Our Drop Off Workshops – Summer at The Castle offer the perfect solution! Parents can leave their children in the care of our friendly team for them to enjoy hands-on crafts and activities, explore the history of The Black Watch and spend time playing in the Castle grounds (weather permitting). Kids can enjoy workshops on Monty’s Moonlight, exploring the clever use of light and camouflage during WWII night missions; Pipes & Drums, where they’ll discover the sounds, and traditions of regimental music; and Signals & Codes, diving into the fascinating world of wartime communication, secret codes, and message decoding.

Sit back and relax as they perform a side splitting opening act, then get involved in the action as you get the chance to interrogate each suspect in a terrible murder!
