King Creosote in The Kirk

King Creosote in The Kirk

6 Jun 2026 - 6 Jun 2026

When I read that the future of CRAIL KIRK looked uncertain I wanted to offer my services. My most memorable gigs to date have taken place in churches, cathedrals and abbeys - snow falling as Jon Hopkins and I wound down our 2012 live set in St.Georges, Brighton; the songs from I DES overpowering the mighty Norwich Cathedral in 2025 to the extent that a small discerning audience preferred to stand behind the stage; counting in the RSNO drummer to perform John Taylors Month Away in Paisley Abbey in 2014 it may have been Cargill, or Favourite Girl, the chords are identical and the reverberations were immense. To sing in a space where thousands have sung their way through history certainly raises the bar. An ethereal air, a heavenly light and a church buildings natural resonance combine to lift a small voice to the rafters, wringing out emotion from even the most hard hearted of syllables. Ill no doubt attempt my most hymn like songs with a few famous tear jerkers befitting the occasion. Incidentally, my parents made their wedding vows in CRAIL KIRK on August 12th 1966. I was listening in utero. Crail matters to me.
