Southwark Playhouse

Southwark Playhouse is a theatre with a main auditorium of 240 seats, a 120 seat studio and a rehearsal space. It has a bar and cafe. Both Borough and Elephant and Castle tube stations are within easy walking distance. The Southwark Playhouse moved to its current location in 2013, and will return to its former London Bridge location when the major redevelopment of that area is completed. There are also plans for a second venue in Elephant and Castle in the Highpoint building in Churchyard Row.

Akimbo Theatre presents The Animator

Akimbo Theatre presents The Animator

20 Aug 2025 - 26 Aug 2025

Against the subversive and glittering background of 1920’s Berlin, Lotte Reiniger changed the world of animation and filmmaking forever. This is the story of the ‘Queen of Silhouettes’, who created the oldest surviving feature length animation, and devised technology that paved the way for much of the pre-digital animation that followed. Within this flickering world of shadows and light, Akimbo presents a high energy physical theatre biopic with dark political themes, holding an unsettling mirror to events today.
