Dom Martin, a 28-year-old Belfast born singer-songwriter, has recently burst onto the UK scene amid high praise for his debut EP Easy Way Out. A solo artist performing his own material, Martin's finger-style acoustic guitar evokes shades of John Martyn and Richard Thompson, with self-declared blues influences courtesy of Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. Over the past three decades or so, Jah Wobble has ploughed his own furrow as a prolific solo artist, as well as becoming a well-respected session musician, with genuine passion for Eastern and Global music. He has worked with a diverse range of musicians, including Baaba Maal, Bjork, Primal Scream, Brian Eno, Sinead O'Connor, Julianne Regan, Delores O'Riordan, Holgat Czukay, The Edge and Chaka Demus & Pliers. The man born John Wardle began his musical journey when he met John Lydon and Sid Vicious at Kingsway College, London in 1973. It was Vicious who not only nicknamed John 'Jah Wobble' after a drunken binge but also loaned him his first bass guitar. Lydon asked JW to join Public Image Limited (aka PiL) in spring 1978. Wardle's distinctive 'low end' bass became the backbone of PiL's pioneering sound. After its follow-up, the exploratory yet sinister soundscapes of Metal Box, Wardle became disillusioned by politics within the band and their reluctance to play live. He eventually split from PiL in mid-1980 and embarked on a prolific solo career. Wobble is joined on stage by drummer Marc Layton-Bennett and Martin Chung.

Hejira is a 7-piece band set up to celebrate and honour the masterpiece works of Joni Mitchell, mostly from the late ‘70s. Having released the albums The Hissing of Summer Lawns, Hejira, Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter and Mingus (regarded as her ‘jazz period’), Joni then toured briefly with a band formed from the crème de la crème of contemporaneous jazz musicians (Metheny, Mays, Brecker, Pastorius and Alias). The tour was recorded, producing the outstanding live album, ‘Shadows And Light’; it is from this album that the band Hejira is drawing the body of its repertoire. Comprising highly experienced jazz musicians, this band is fronted by the brilliant Hattie Whitehead who not only has - in her own way - assimilated the poise, power and beauty of Joni’s vocals, but also plays guitar with Joni’s stylistic mannerisms. Miki Berenyi Trio are Miki Berenyi on vocals/guitar (Lush), Kevin ‘Moose’ McKillop on guitar (Moose) and Oliver Cherer (Gilroy Mere, Aircooled). The three musicians first worked together during Piroshka’s 2021 tour. Miki and Kevin being founder members, Oliver coming in on bass to replace Mick Conroy (Modern English) who had moved to the US. When the global pandemic made touring impossible, Miki spent the lockdown months writing her memoir, Fingers Crossed, released in 2022 to widespread acclaim. To provide some musical accompaniment for the string of book events and signings, Miki Berenyi Trio was formed.

We are please to welcome Motorheadache who are a top class and authentic tribute to the late, great Lemmy Kilmister and his band, Motörhead. Motörheadache is a three piece tribute to Lemmy's musical career with Motörhead from 1975 to 2015. Set up by lifelong Motörhead fan Rob Campbell on Rickenbacker bass and vocals, Rob captures the essence of Lemmy in voice, stage clothes and his grinding mid-range bass sound. As Lemmy Kidderminster, Rob plays a custom built Rickenbastard made my Lemmy's own luthier, which is fitted with the pickups and tuners removed from Lemmy's own Rickenbastard when it was serviced. Rob also has a custom Lemmy 'Murder One' Marshall Super Bass wired to the same specification as Lemmy's and two Marshall 4x15 cabs with 4x12 cabs either side of the stage. The line-up also features Al Leach on guitar and 'Dirty' Dave Nutter on drums with some 'dep' drummers and guitarists to help out with the busy touring schedule. Motörheadache toured the UK extensively in 2016 and embarked on its new UK & European tour on 21st January 2017 with over 60 dates in the diary including large summer festivals such as Hard Rock Hell Road Trip 2017 in Ibiza, Rocker's Reunited Lindos 2017 Festival in Greece and various biker rallys such as Pentrich Rock and Blues, Yorkshire Rock and Bike Festival and Festwich in Manchester. After some showcase gigs in O2 Academy venues in Glasgow, Newcastle and London later in the year as part of the band's The Curse Still Rings True tour, in January 2018 Motörheadache will headline at the Lemmy Dutch Memorial concert in Amsterdam The main body of the Motörheadache's set list comprises a large number of songs from Motörhead's Fast Eddie Clarke era, regarded by many Motörheadbangers as the classic era from 1975 to 1982. Songs include Ace of Spades, Bomber, Overkill, Iron Fist, The Hammer, Damage Case and the thunderous Motörhead - the last song Lemmy wrote for Hawkwind and the one that gave his new band its name. Motörheadache also play material written by Motörhead from 1983 through to 2015. From Brian Robertson's short stint in1983, to the re-launch in 1984 of Motörhead as a four piece with Wurzel and Phil Campbell on guitars and finally, the longstanding Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Mikkey Dee era from 1995 to 2015. Songs from this period include Killed by Death, In the Name of Tragedy, Sacrifice, Ramones and Burner. Motörheadache also performs Victory or Die from Motörhead's last studio outing, Bad Magic a song that Lemmy and Motörhead never got the chance to play live in the UK with the cancellation of Motörhead's 2016 UK tour. Motörheadache is proud to help keep alive the music of Motörhead by playing gigs all over the UK and Europe and invites Motörhead fans to celebrate the life and work of a rock icon and legend, Mr Lemmy Kilmister.

The three LPs that followed, on Brighton’s Jalapeno Records, were sonic steps forward for the pair, winning them die-hard fans and BBC 6 Music ‘Album of the Day’ and ‘Album of the Year’ awards along the way - Diplomats of Sound.

Dub Pistols are a London based dub music and big beat band, founded by ex-club promoter, Barry Ashworth, in 1996. The other members of the band were record producer and bassist Jason O'Bryan, Brooklyn producer and lyricist, T. K. Lawrence on vocals, Jap Slt guitarist John King, and turntablist DJ Stix / Steve Hunt. Guest songwriters and vocalists include Blade, James Dewes Sheffield (JMS), Rodney King and Terry Hall. In 2008 Dan Bowskill joined the band.

Weetwood Mac are a Leeds based Fleetwood Mac covers act, paying homage to the greatest band to ever form, split up… and the rest of it. Featuring members from Hope & Social and Ellen & The Escapades.

Reelin’ in the Dan are an ensemble celebrating the music of Steely Dan, performing songs from the catalogue between 1972-1980. Born from a shared passion for, and upbringing on, Walter Becker and Donald Fagan’s songwriting prowess, the young band is dedicated to recreating the Steely Dan sound as faithfully as possible.

Crystal Tides are an Indie Rock band based on the South-Coast of England, who take influence from classic noughties guitar riffs and modern feel-good pop melodies. The band have built momentum following the release of several successful singles and have sold out multiple shows in their hometown of Portsmouth and also in London. With George Regan creating a strong rhythmic foundation on bass, the band is completed by Harry Knowles on lead guitar, and Billy Gregory on rhythm guitar and vocals.

Shonen Knife are a ground-breaking all-female Japanese, pop-punk rock trio formed in Osaka in 1981, when Naoko Yamana first heard late ‘70’s punk-pop, particularly The Ramones. Inspired, the band crafted their own idiosyncratic songs, fashioned brightly coloured outfits and DIY albums. In 1985, K Records released ‘Burning Farm’ in the United States. Deals with Sub Pop and various majors followed. 1989 saw the crème of the alt. rock scene (including Sonic Youth, L7 and Redd Kross) covering their favourite Shonen Knife songs on the tribute album ‘Every Band Has A Shonen Knife Who Loves Them’. They toured with Nirvana (on the ‘Nevermind’ tour), The Breeders, as part of Lollapalooza, wowed the Reading Festival and Roskilde, recorded sessions for John Peel and appeared on MTV’s ‘Beavis and Butthead’. The band returned to the UK after a gap of 16 years in 2009 and since toured regularly throughout Europe gaining many generations of fans.

Danny George Wilson has been touring the world and making critically acclaimed records for nearly 20 years now, the first Grand Drive release was on Loose Back in 1997. Since forming as ‘Danny & The Champions of the World’, the band have released four albums, the latest, ‘Stay True’, being their ‘finest set yet’ according to Mojo Magazine. Danny & The Champions Of The World are and have always been a loose collection of great musicians, songwriters, stowaways and adventurers. Danny talks of Stay True as being inspired by the ‘great soul, country and rock n roll of Stax, Muscle Shoals, The Band, Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham, Dion DiMucci, Van Morrisson, Ronnie Lane meets Ronnie Spector’! Rob Green is a soul/pop artist from Nottingham who draws from the R&B, Soul, Indie, Rock and Gospel music he was raised on to inspire the music he makes.

Lambrini Girls + Guests Lambrini Girls formed in the swamplands underneath Skegness Butlins, a scene filled with toxicity, a severe lack of accountability and not enough gravy. Flying the nest with a dream to curate slut vibes nationwide, they became the gayest band to ever win 50 consecutive Eurovision contests in a row. Melin Melyn’s music is a hearty cawl (Welsh broth) of surfer psych-pop and folk.

Determinedly doing things her own way and standing up for what she believes in has long been ingrained in the psyche of trailblazing South African musician Moonchild Sanelly, whose drive to succeed has been fuelled by personal pain and trauma. Growing up in Port Elizabeth with a hip-hop producer brother and a mum who would put her onstage from a young age to compete in dance competitions, Sanelisiwe Twishas music-filled childhood was full of creativity. Whether it was self-choreographing dance routines to Spice Girls tracks, teaching herself to play the piano, singing at church with her family, or starting to write poetry, expression and being artistically free was always encouraged.

Dutch Criminal Record are an indie surf band from Chichester on the south coast of the UK, whose signature sound is guitar-driven, energetic, and packed with nostalgia. Consisting of Joe Delaney-Stone (vocals, guitar), Sam Thrussell (vocals, guitar), and Joe Frampton (drums), they take influence from '60s giants' pop vocals while lacing each track with narratives of living in 21st-century Britain with blooming harmonies and dreamy instrumentation.

Nap Eyes’ metamorphic fifth long-player collects a cache of nine fascinating songs recorded over the four years since Snapshot of a Beginner. The Neon Gate reveals classic touchstones (the uneasy interplay of physics and philosophy, perambulatory meditations, self-interrogating soliloquies, apertures of surreality, video games), but also evidence of divergent impulses toward nonlinear abstraction and longform improvisational composition (resulting in their most discursive, deconstructed, and deliquescent songs to date) and narrative and lyric formality (including adaptations of thorny poems by Alexander Pushkin and W. B. Yeats), imparting the sense that Nap Eyes have transmuted, as has their understanding of what a song is, what it can do, where it might go.

Getting this star band to South Devon is a real coup for us. This is being put on at the Pavilions, Teignmouth. The Cinelli Brothers have a passion for the music of the 1960’s, an amalgam of blues, rock and soul, and add a twist of contemporary style, making them a rising force on the music scene. Northern Irish experimental folk songwriter and producer Joshua Burnside is something of a regional anomaly. With a brooding, powerful sound echoing artists of places afar and time long gone, his enthralling craft defies local comparison in striving towards an aesthetic as much as visual as it is sonic. Balanced with a diverse palette of sounds, Burnside deftly blends alt-folk and elements of the Irish folk song tradition with South American rhythms and Eastern European influences, whilst introducing synthetic and found-sounds, synths loops and crunching beats to create a stormy world that shifts and swirls perspective like a lingering lucid dream.

Rose City Band’s country psychedelic rock evokes the wide-open spaces of the American west and the free spirits who call it home. The project of acclaimed guitarist and vocalist Ripley Johnson, Rose City Band has extended beyond the studio and lives in tandem as a live ensemble featuring some of the finest players in contemporary rock: pedal steel guitarist Barry Walker, keyboardist Paul Hasenberg, bassist Dewey Mahood (aka Plankton Wat) and drummer Dustin Dybvig. Natty isn't just a gifted musician; he's a skilled producer, crafting his own unique sound. As a Rastafarian, he delves into various spiritual practices, embracing sound healing, and more recently, exploring the science of immersive/spatial audio. Recorded in his solar-powered studio amidst the hills of St Ann, Jamaica, where he now lives off-grid with his young family.

Benefits are an issues-based music collective from Teesside in the North East of England. They write songs about the urgencies that concern them, and they play them loud. Forming in 2019 and consisting of Kingsley Hall on vocals, Robbie Major and Hugh Major on synths and noise, and Jonny Snowball on drums they quickly evolved from a fairly standard IDLES-lite shouty punk rock outfit to a politicised group that merges noise, hip hop, industrial rock, garage and an angry twitter feed to get it’s point across.

The Beat formed in 1979 and released their debut single, an infectious cover of the Smokey Robinson classic Tears of A Clown on 2-Tone Records which went straight into the UK national charts at #6. Along with their contemporaries The Specials, Madness and The Selecter, The Beat became an overnight sensation. One thing you won't be able to avoid on Bambara's Stray is death. It's everywhere and inescapable, abstract and personified - perhaps the key to the whole record. Death, however, won't be the first thing that strikes you about the group's fourth - and greatest - album to date. That instead will be its pulverising soundscape; by turns, vast, atmospheric, cool, broiling and at times - on stand out tracks like 'Sing Me To The Street' and 'Serafina' - simply overwhelming Bambara - twin brothers Reid and Blaze Bateh, singer/guitarist and drummer respectively, and bassist William Brookshire - have been evolving their midnight-black noise into something more subtle and expansive ever since the release of their 2013 debut Dreamviolence. That process greatly accelerated on 2018's Shadow On Everything, their first on New York's Wharf Cat Records and a huge stride forward for the band both lyrically and sonically. The album was rapturously received by the press, listeners and their peers. NPR called it a 'mesmerising...western, gothic opus,' Bandcamp called the "horror-house rampage" "one of the year's most gripping listens," and Alexis Marshall of Daughters named it his 'favorite record of 2018.' Shadow also garnered much acclaim on the other side of the Atlantic. Influential British 6Music DJ Steve Lamacq, dubbed them the best band of 2019's SXSW, and Joe Talbot of the UK band IDLES said, "The best thing I heard last year was easily Bambara and their album Shadow On Everything." The question was, though, how to follow it? To start, the band did what they always do: they locked themselves in their windowless Brooklyn basement to write. Decisions were made early on to try and experiment with new instrumentation and song structures, even if the resulting compositions would force the band to adapt their storied live set, known for its tenacity and technical prowess. Throughout the songwriting process, the band pulled from their deep well of creative references, drawing on the likes of Leonard Cohen, Ennio Morricone, Sade, classic French noir L'Ascenseur Pour L'Echafraud, as well as Southern Gothic stalwarts Flannery O'Connor and Harry Crews. Once the building blocks were set in place, they met with producer Drew Vandenberg, who mixed Shadow On Everything, in Athens, GA to record the foundation of Stray. After recruiting friends Adam Markiewicz (The Dreebs) on violin, Sean Smith (Klavenauts) on trumpet and a crucial blend of backing vocals by Drew Citron (Public Practice) and Anina Ivry-Block (Palberta), Bambara convened in a remote cabin in rural Georgia, where Reid laid down his vocals. The finished product represents both the band's most experimental and accessible work to date. The addition of Citron and Ivory-Block's vocals create a hauntingly beautiful contrast to Bateh's commanding baritone on tracks like 'Sing Me to the Street', 'Death Croons' and 'Stay Cruel," while the Dick Dale inspired guitar riffs on 'Serafina' and "Heat Lightning" and the call-and-response choruses throughout the album showcase Bambara's ability to write songs that immediately demand repeat listens. While the music itself is evocative and propulsive, a fever dream all of its own, the lyrical content pushes the record even further into its own darkly thrilling realm. If the songs on Shadow On Everything were like chapters in a novel, then this time they're short stories. Short stories connected by death and its effect on the characters in contact with it. 'Death is what you make it' runs a lyric in 'Sweat,' a line which may very well be the thread that ties these stories together. But it would be wrong to characterize Stray as simply the sound of the graveyard. Light frequently streams through and, whether refracted through the love and longing found on songs like 'Made for Me' or the fantastical nihilism on display in tracks like the anthemic 'Serafina,' reveals this album to be the monumental step forward that it is. Here Bambara sound like they've locked into what they were always destined to achieve, and the effect is nothing short of electrifying.

The Tubs were formed by two of the primary songwriters from the critically lauded pop group Joanna Gruesome - Owen Williams & George Nicholls - as a way of expanding the dimensions of their jubilant compositions.

They came from the trees. Now settled in fertile east London, Snapped Ankles maintain the feral energy of the forest. Fight or flight. Primal motorik rhythms, the rush of white noise and post-punk angles; an aural onslaught played out on homemade log synths, electrified guitars and sticks beating hell on taut animal skin. Snapped Ankles have flourished in the sub-tropical climes of warehouse and squat parties, moving onto performance art collaborations with filmmakers and shows in unlikely locations such as barber shops, games arcades and the forests they once called home. They plough a singular furrow at improbable angles. The woodwose have discovered electricity and they’re not afraid to use it.

After a few tunes getting thrown across the room Boydie stated muttering a few sentences. As he is a man of few words no attention was really given to him until he shouted 'Quick, line me out!' Not a second to spare a set of old broken headphones were cable tied to a guitar amp and out came a few cobwebs followed shortly after with a sound nobody had ever heard before. What came next was five gallons of lyrics, verse after verse, song after song Peat & Diesel was born! The songs won't make much sense to the average person, but the person behind the lyrics isn't your average man so if you have a listen and you can relate to it you are a special breed! Peat & Diesel Light my Byre takes you on a journey to the heart of the Western Isles, where #peatlemania was born. In their own words: “Hi we are Honeyglaze, and there’s no time to explain." Honeyglaze are South London based, haiku-loving trio comprised of vocalist and guitarist Anouska Sokolow, bassist Tim Curtis, and Yuri Shibuichi on drums. Born out of lead songwriter Sokolow’s un-desire to be a solo-act, the group met officially at their first ever rehearsal- just three days ahead of what was to become a near-residency, at their favoured ‘The Windmill’, Brixton. Forming a mere five-months ahead of a subsequent five-months of mandatory solitude, a parallel that’s both aligned and universally un-timely, Honeyglaze, at first appearance, are a group who play with chance, time, and synergetic fate, in a manner few others are able to do. Pricking the ears of seminal producer Dan Carey and his team of merry taste-makers: Speedy Wunderground (Tiña, Squid, Black Country New Road), initial brainstorms saw the Speedy Wunderground / Honeyglaze partnership manifest into a dynamic that, quite simply, just worked despite having never met before. The resulting body of work that was spawned of this instant chemistry is an album that tackles themes varying from jealousy to inadequacy, cushion-y companionships to the smell of coffee on clothes, as with all good reflections of self, Honeyglaze is a fly on the wall opportunity to get to know three familial strangers in your own way- whilst they too suss out themselves, and the ever-growing circle around them, in the span of 35 minutes.

These days, David Ford feels much more at home operating on the fringes of the music business, not trying to be famous, not trying to get rich. It might be an unconventional way to conduct a musical career, but this is not a conventional guy, as evidenced by his most recent album, Animal Spirits, a surprisingly accessible, even soulful collection of songs about economics. As an artist Ford still defies classification or comparison. Singer-songwriter doesn’t begin to cover it. He writes and performs with fluency across multiple genres, plays every instrument on the stage and even invents new ones to create truly unique recordings and performances. Every live show is different. Ford’s trademark one-man loop machine circus grows more complex and audacious every year, but then he is just as likely to show up with a six-piece band, a string quartet, jazz drummer or a choir and his most recent UK tour proved he can be equally compelling sat in an armchair, playing acoustic guitar and telling stories. Devoted to recreating the atmosphere of a live Joy Division gig, Transmission emulate the sound of one of the most inventive, evocative and influential groups of their era. Joy Division were formed in the late 1970s and dissolved in 1980 after the suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis. The remaining members went on to form New Order and have achieved much critical and commercial success. The influence of Joy Division, however, was far reaching. They were considered the pioneering band of the post-punk movement of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Hawkins will embark on a new voyage to the melodic shores of Whaler as the emotionally timeless songs re-emerge onstage in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the albums release. Released in 1994,Whalerwas the follow up to the platinum certified debut album Tongues and Tails (1992), that earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist in 1993. Whaler featured the singles Right Beside You, and the top ten hit As I Lay Me Down, with accompanying video directed by Sophie Mueller (Annie Lennox, Sade). The album was certified gold. Whaler was an incredibly adventurous time of my life, making my second record in London, meeting my teenage inspirations, living a dream I'd imagined since childhood, recalls Sophie. he songs are warm and happy and I love getting to know this part of me again, and presenting they live in a whole new way.

Death Valley Girls feels less like a band and more like a travelling caravan. At their core, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Bonnie Bloomgarden and guitarist Larry Schemel channel Death Valley Girls’ modern spin on Fun House’s sonic exorcisms, early ZZ Top’s desert-blasted riffage, and Sabbath’s occult menace. Diablo Productions Presents The Troops of Doom formed in 2020, during the pandemic, by the original SEPULTURA guitarist Jairo “Tormentor” Guedz. He recorded the albums “Bestial Devastation” (1985) and “Morbid Visions” (1986). Jairo left the band in 1987, making way for Andreas Kisser, who continues with the band to this day. THE TROOPS OF DOOM’s lineup also includes other significant figures from the Brazilian metal scene, such as guitarist Marcelo Vasco (Patria, Mysteriis), a globally renowned graphic artist known for his work with bands like Slayer, Dee Snider, Kreator, Machine Head, Soulfly, and many others. She plays the ukulele and posts original songs and covers on her YouTube channel. She posted her first video on YouTube in early 2014. She has come a long way since then. She states herself to be bi-sexual and is an animal lover with a few pets of different species. She usually shoots her videos with her iPhone 6s and Zoom H1 microphone and edits them on iMovie or Logic’s illegal version. She had a sound club with the name ‘Kidzwithbugz’.

Today Glasgow/London duo Sacred Paws return to the fold after a five year hiatus, announcing their new album Jump Into Life for release on March 28th, 2025, via Rock Action Records (Merge in North America). Along with the album news, they have announced new live dates and shared a first single entitled Turn Me Down. When the band broke through with their debut record they did so with firm intent and rousing success. The duo of Ray Aggs (Trash Kit, Shopping) and Eilidh Rodgers (Golden Grrrls) took their roots in the punk world and wound it together with myriad influences, from Afrobeat, through pop and post-punk, to create a glorious and unique hybrid. Strike A Match, the bands urgent and infectious first offering, was released on Mogwais Rock Action label in 2017 and won the prestigious Scottish Album of the Year Award that same year. That success was quickly capitalised on with another full-length effort, the bands second LP Run Around The Sun, which was released in 2019. More than five years have now passed since that release, and while Sacred Paws absence wasnt necessarily deliberate it was certainly intentional - Ray and Eilidh deciding that rather than force the work, they would take as long as they felt they needed to produce the album they knew they were capable of. Jump Into Life, the lush and layered new album is proof that such a journey was both necessary and significant. Formed of eleven new songs, it takes the roots of the Sacred Paws project and breathes fresh life into it, blossoming into something both abundant and more colourful than has come before; a gentle skewing of their signature sound that feels wildly thrilling. Late last year first single Another Day introduced the thematic thread, of remaining positive in the face of heartbreak, that weaves throughout the record and it breeds affection the more explicitly it reveals itself - both in sound and sentiment. It's a theme that continues on today's new single "Turn Me Down" - a track the band say is "about the rawness of rejection" where the refrain "do you even feel the pain?" juxtaposes against jubilant handclaps and guitars that burst with vitality. They add: "Its something I reckon everyone feels at some point in their life - those moments when however irrational it might seem to feel so deeply the feeling is still there. It felt cathartic to write a song about it with quite dramatic rhythms and a big vocal melody." Sonically, The track ripples with the unyielding spirit of their more recognisable African and roots influences, the vocal harmonies again lending the track a world-weary edge that allows the whole thing to linger long after the song is wrapped up. We really loved working on the vocal melodies for this song, they say. The harmonies took a while to figure out as its not something we have done a lot in the past but the singing added something really epic. The lyrics are so simple and raw that it really needed to pack a punch as a song. It was a relocation to Mogwais practice room that sparked the albums genesis, the pair soon excitedly listening to sketches and demos in the car, to and from the studio space, pinpointing the spark they create together, finding it pouring out of the crackling car speakers and into the wider city that was once again opening up. Having been so patient for so long, Ray and Eilidh found form in that sudden lightning-bolt of inspiration and brought together the songs that would make up Jump Into Life with a wide-eyed, thrilling sense of abandon. Such honesty is reflected in the finished record, the band embracing a more open-hearted sincerity in the songs rather than hiding such sentiments behind their more characteristic riffs and rhythms. Personal catharsis through music is nothing new, but Sacred Paws attack their own demons with a gutsy, characterful heft across Jump Into Life. Its still every bit as infectious and vital as whats come before but it funnels those moments of heady release through feelings of heartbreak, healing and renewal. Its definitely a Sacred Paws record but it feels a bit older and wiser, the pair explain of their new chapter. We took a few years working on the songwriting and pushed ourselves creatively. We wrote a lot in that time, but we made sure every song had something that we fell in love with. With their emblematic, signature sense of fervour, Sacred Paws continue to hurtle forward, jumping into life, embracing that forward motion that stops lingering in the shadows of lifes messiness. Full of endearing energy, and buoyed by new sounds, textures, and character, Jump Into Life is both a call-back and an evolution; unafraid to reveal its warm and heavy beating heart, even with all the anxiety such a thing entails. Can it really be over two decades since the band's genre-blurring, self-styled pagan folktronica first emerged from an east London studio courtesy of a clutch of Gilles Peterson-endorsed singles on the small but perfectly formed Static Caravan imprint It surely can, and what's more, January 2025 will mark the twentieth anniversary of This is Tunng... Mother's Daughter and Other Songs, a debut longplayer whose acoustic guitars and poetic disquisitions on nature, mythology and the human condition, courtesy of Sam Genders, sieved through fellow band founder Mike Lindsay's lattice of fractured beats and crackling electronics, still sounds like an impiously postmodern wedding of the rustic and the synthetic, the arcane and the futurist one for which the designation pagan folktronica is as good a shorthand as any. Whichever way we choose to describe it, that 20-year-old signature sound makes a warm return on Tunng's eighth studio album, Love You All Over Again, a winning amalgam of texture and melody, disconcerting imagery and shapeshifting production, predicated, Lindsay reveals, on a conscious reacquainting with the band's first principles. I went back to the first two albums just to listen to how we fused genres things like Davy Graham, Pentangle and the Wicker Man soundtrack, all of which I was discovering back then, together with Expanding Records [the Shoreditch-based repository of soi-disant beautiful electronic music], whose studio space we shared. That was all going into the early records. Over the years, Tunng's sound has varied and twisted, but at the root there is always a flavour of what Sam and I made on that first album. Rather than searching for a new avenue we went back to what we used to do, which, after all this time, felt like it was a new avenue... Love You All Over Again is our way of coming full circle. And what a circle it's been, one that has embraced global touring, chart-grazing singles (like live favourites Jenny Again from 2006, the following year's Bullets and 2010's Hustle), a jaw-dropping live collaboration with Tuareg desert blues combo Tinariwen (including two memorable Glastonbury performances in 2009 and 2010), and a catalogue of restlessly innovative albums for the Full Time Hobby label, beginning with folktronica exemplars Comments of the Inner Chorus in 2006 and Good Arrows in 2007. Subsequent longplayers would expand the Tunng palette, exploring more of a live band feel and embracing broader leftfield pop and psychedelic flavours, helping cement widespread acclaim and a loyal international audience in the process.
