The List

King's Head Theatre

A notable pub theatre which was started by Dan Crawford in 1970, and run by him till his death in 2005. It seats 110, a number which grew in stages of development. Productions often transferred to the West End. The theatre opposed currency decimalisation and retained LSD prices for decades. It has a resident company, OperaUpClose. Over the years performers included French and Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Alan Rickman, Richard E Grant, and Sir Ben Kingsley. In August 2017 it was announced that the theatre would move into a space, with double the capacity, in the neighbouring Islington Square development.

The Pitchfork Disney

The Pitchfork Disney

27 Aug 2025 - 4 Oct 2025

"You know why the ghost train is so popular? Because there are no ghosts. Once you’ve learnt that you can make a fortune." Ten years ago something terrible happened to Presley and Haley. Since then they've lived alone in their dead parents’ house, doors bolted against the terrors of the world. But, one night, Presley sees a beautiful stranger on the street outside. And while his sister sleeps… he invites in their worst nightmare. Darkly comic and deeply unsettling, Philip Ridley’s seminal masterpiece single-handedly changed the course of British drama. Its exploration of ‘a climate of fear’, living in ‘alternate worlds’, and persistent thrum of sexual anxiety has continued to act as a tuning fork for the zeitgeist. It is a play whose relevance is forever in the now. Lidless Theatre has a long-standing collaboration with Philip Ridley and is now set to return with a landmark production—his first-ever play, The Pitchfork Disney. One of Ridley’s most celebrated and influential works, this production marks a major moment in their partnership. Fresh from two sell-out, ★★★★★ runs at Park Theatre, including Leaves of Glass, which broke Park90’s box office records, Lidless Theatre continues to champion Ridley’s groundbreaking storytelling on stage.
Fanny

Fanny

10 Oct 2025 - 15 Nov 2025

RJG Productions in association with The Watermill Theatre present FANNY by Calum Finlay 'You're not stupid for wanting things to change, Fanny – it's just that we have to play the music that gets handed to us.' Meet Fanny Mendelssohn. You'll probably know her younger brother Felix, from nineteenth-century smash hits like 'The Wedding March'. Felix was such a musical sensation that Queen Victoria requested a personal concert and even sung her favorite of his compositions: ‘Italien’. The only problem was Felix didn’t write it. The piece of music was Fanny’s, quietly published under her brother's name. So - when Fanny intercepts a letter inviting Felix to go back to England and premiere a new orchestral work for the Queen, Fanny decides to hide the letter and take her rightful place at the palace…! Fanny is a joyful and irreverent comedy celebrating music, family and – at last – the work of a composer overlooked because of her sex.
