During the 18th century Lulworth Castle, originally built as a hunting lodge, became a fashionable country house set in delightful parkland. For centuries, it was the seat of the Weld family, before being ravaged in a a fire in 1929, then restored in partnership with English Heritage. Visitors can climb the tower to enjoy panoramic views of the countryside, before checking out the 18th century Roman Catholic chapel and the 15th century Church of St Andrew. There is plenty of parkland to explore, as well as woodland walks and a play area for kids. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead. In 2017, Lulworth Estate will become home to Bestival for the first time.
