Trades Club

A socialist members club and music venue which has attracted some pretty stellar names over the years: Patti Smith, Marc Almond, Thurston Moore, Robyn Hitchcock, The Fall, Martha Wainwright . . . Food is supplied by various enterprising local pop-ups and the bar shows all premiership games it can on the 42-inch screen in the bar. The venue is also a committed community hub, hosting political events and fundraisers. Membership isn't expensive and confers many benefits, including discount prices for concerts and drinks at the bar. The members own and run the club, electing its committee.

The Vaselines

The Vaselines

16 May 2025 - 24 May 2025

The Vaselines were formed in Edinburgh in 1987 by singers/guitarists Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, soon signing to Pastels frontman Stephen Pastel's newly formed 53rd 3rd label. Nirvana's Kurt Cobain regularly cited the Vaselines influence in interviews with the music press and Nirvana would go on to cover the Vaselines' Molly's Lips and Son of a Gun (both later compiled on their Incesticide collection) as well as perform Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam on their legendary MTV Unplugged appearance. Cobain's gospel-spreading no doubt accelerated their rise to cult sainthood, but the Vaselines would have gotten there sooner or later on their own accord. Lewd but nave and abrasive yet tender, the band's shambling, primitivist squall remains a perfect distillation of pop at its most guileless and euphoric.Eugene Kelly later went on to front Captain America / Eugenius, while McKee spent the better part of the decade out of sight, resurfaced in Suckle, and released a solo album in 2006. The Vaselines reunited proper in 2010 to record their second full album Sex With An X which was released on the Seattle label Sub Pop.This was followed by V for Vaselines in 2014. The Ramones inspired album featured many of the same players who helped make 'Sex.....', including Belle and Sebastian's Stevie Jackson, the 1990's Michael McGaughrin and Teenage Fanclub's Francis Macdonald.

Fat Dog

Fat Dog

1 Nov 2025 - 1 Nov 2025

Fat Dog’s particular brand of chaos seems a fine antidote to the remains of pent-up lockdown frustration. The collective scream has found a mouth; the potential energy has been activated. Joe’s singing, his words slurred and distorted in the time-honoured tradition of delta bluesmen, melds to Jazz’s wordless vocals, high and keening like some punk banshee princess, equal parts Grace Slick and Yoko Ono.
Blue Rose Code

Blue Rose Code

10 May 2025 - 18 Aug 2025

A nomad, both geographically and musically, songwriter Ross Wilson aka Blue Rose Code writes straight from – and to – the heart. His songs address universal themes of love, loss, travel, home, accepting the past and embracing the future in a deeply personal way. They are variously painted with the vibrant colours of folk, Americana, jazz, country, soul, pop and, increasingly, celtic traditions; an eclecticism that has seen him compared to John Martyn, Van Morrison and Tom Waits amongst

Jonny & The Baptists: Dance Like It Never Happened
Jonny and Paddy and back on the road again! Bringing their brand new show 'Dance Like it Never Happened' on tour. And they've missed you all! So what is this new hilarious show about? Grief. Its about Grief. In 2019, we lost another election, our place in Europe and, worst of all, a dearly beloved friend. We are no strangers to grief, but it hurt. Then in 2020, we all lost the world as we knew it. Our decades-long system of "dealing with emotions" (ignore them, drink heavily and make jokes) finally broke. We finally broke. In their most honest and personal show yet, Jonny & The Baptists learn to accept and engage with their grief, telling the story of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance through their trademark blend of silly, joyful songs, deadpan stand-up and riotous storytelling. Finding meaning, humour and beauty in the hardest part of life. So come and see us, have a laugh and maybe a cry - but definitely a laugh.
Kyle Falconer (The View)

Kyle Falconer (The View)

10 Sept 2025 - 5 Oct 2025

Kyle Falconer has always been a songwriter who has been inspired by a female muse. From his chart-topping success with The View through to his acclaimed solo career, his storytelling songs have explored the good times of love and lust; the bad times of regret and heartache; and stories of some of the larger-than-life characters who have stepped into his life, alongside some playful fictional narratives. Recently crowned with the King Tuts Songwriting Award at the Scottish Music Awards, Kyle brings the best of those songs together with The One I Love The Most which will be released on February 7th ahead of Valentines Day. The album is a collection of songs from his vast back catalogue, all of which are named after women and have been newly reworked in acoustic form. Named after a lyric taken from The View fan favourite 5 Rebeccas, The One I Love The Most features songs spanning almost two decades: from the unrequited love of Claudia (from the bands #1 debut album Hats Off To The Buskers) through to the lovelorn Dixie (the original of which featured on last years Top 10 return Exorcism of Youth). Along the way, the album also reinvents highlights from his two solo albums No Thank You and No Love Songs For Laura, which often tackled more complicated themes: Laura shares regrets for his past behaviour and the impact it had on his then-partner and now-wife Laura Wilde, to the issues of gender identity addressed in Kelly. A far lighter moment comes with Madonna, a playful, celeb-heavy imagining of what the ideal afterlife might be like, while Manchester rapper PROSE adds his razor-sharp rhymes to an otherwise stripped-back Lucy.
