The List

The Wilson

The Wilson gallery came into being in 1899, when former MP for Cheltenham, Lord de Ferrieres, donated 43 paintings together with a donation towards somewhere to house them. A significant renovation took place in 2013, with new gallery space across four floors allowing temporary exhibitions, touring shows and more displays from the permanent collections.

Creative Explorers

Creative Explorers

28 May 2025 - 28 May 2025

An artist led holiday club for 5-11 year olds who love to make, share and play. We will collaborate on engaging individual and group craft projects with a focus on nature, the world around us and free play to encourage creativity, language and expression within the arts. This informal holiday workshop will be fun and light, providing your child with the chance to express themselves artistically while making new friends and learning new skills. We will take a tour of the galleries, explore the works on display and (weather dependant) we will take a nature walk outside, so please supply a coat if you are happy for your child to join. Please note: • On sunny days we like to get outside! If you are not happy for your child to leave the building then please let us know at the time of booking. • Children aged 4 are only permitted to attend on a shorter day of 11-3 according to government safeguarding guidelines. If you book a 4 year old on to any of our holiday club days you will not be allowed to drop them off before 11am. • We may get messy! Please send your child in old clothes that you don’t mind them making and playing in, as we do occasionally use materials that may be harder to wash out. • Please pack your child a drinks bottle, so that they can help themselves through the day. Feel free to pack them a snack as well – exploring can be hungry work! • Children should bring a bag to help them carry home all their crafts and keep them safe through the day. All children will now need a packed lunch, there is no longer the option to add it to your ticket booking. However, ‘Arty’ lunch boxes will be available to purchase from the café on the day if you wish, with a 20% discount for Creative Explorers. Please note this is a drop-off session. The cost includes all materials.
Field to Fork

Field to Fork

24 May 2025 - 24 May 2025

Join us for Field to Fork, a unique event celebrating the upcoming exhibition Common Ground, guest curated by artist and folklorist Ben Edge. The exhibition explores the themes of land access, our diminished rights to roam, and the evolving relationship between humans and the landscape. In this special event, the Wilson will host an insightful panel discussion with leading artists Adelaide Damoah, Ben Edge and Billy Dosanjh, delving into how these issues are reflected in contemporary art. The conversation will explore the idea of "common ground" in both literal and metaphorical terms, highlighting the ways in which art can help raise awareness about land rights and the challenges surrounding access to nature. After the discussion, we invite you to continue the celebration with a feast of locally farmed produce, bringing the themes of Common Ground to life through food. Enjoy a hearty serving of traditional bangers and mash, made with locally sourced ingredients, and pair it with refreshing, locally brewed beer. This convivial gathering offers a chance to reflect on the connections between art, land, and the food we eat, while supporting local farmers and producers. Join us for an evening that celebrates both the creative and agricultural communities, delving into a deeper understanding of our shared environment and the issues that shape it. Doors Open at 6pm Panel Discussion from 6.30pm – 7.30pm Food served at 8pm Common Ground opens on the 21st February 2025
Family Workshop: My Objects, Our Stories
Join our exciting children’s workshop for children aged 7-12 years old, inspired by Cheltenham’s Big Museum Project: Test Space! Step into the Test Space exhibition to explore how objects and artefacts tell stories, experience the museum in new ways, and reimagine Cheltenham’s rich history and future. This interactive children’s workshop invites you to consider what stories are important to tell and how we best share them. Through hands-on craft activities you’ll explore art’s power to communicate ideas and different perspectives. Together, we’ll reflect on and mold our own artifacts of significance and creatively map our personal interlacing stories of the area. Come to have your say in shaping your museum and discover how objects, places, and creativity shape our shared stories! Please note this is a drop-off workshop.
