Eastern Angles presents A Voice of my Own
Voice Of My Own tells the inspiring true story of Daniel Jillings, the Lowestoft D/deaf teenager who campaigned for the British Sign Language GCSE. From the Suffolk coast to the steps of Parliament, Daniels remarkable story is one of courage, resilience and the power of youth to create change. Despite being a language for over 500 years, British Sign Language was only legally recognised by Parliament in 2022. Banned from education systems globally in 1880, the UK Government announced the introduction of a British Sign Language GCSE in 2023. Voice Of My Own tells the Suffolk origins of this national movement in a celebration of Deaf culture, using integrated captions and bilingual performances placing Deaf issues centre stage. Despite knowing that the GCSE would come too late for his own studies, Daniels determination to be able to access education in his own language has transformed the system for future generations. This brand-new play written by Eloise Pennycott is a universal story of self-discovery and finding your voice in a world full of noise happening in the 30th anniversary year of the Disability Discrimination Act.

Jubilee Goes Global presents A Night of Australian Americana
Get ready for a heart-steeped night of Australian country music as two powerhouse acts share the spotlight: Charlotte Le Lievre and the Double Dole Stringband. Together, they deliver a double headliner built for anyone who loves twang, truth, and a good yarn. Expect harmonies that wrap around you, tunes that travel from tender to rollicking, and a night that celebrates the beating heart of Australias country tradition. Charlotte Le Lievre writes country songs that cut deep honest, raw, and grounded in real life. With a voice thats equal parts vulnerable and commanding, her music pulls from early country and folk traditions to make sense of grief, joy, resistance, and the stories we carry. Charlotte spent her 20s hitchhiking, living at blockades in remote corners of the continent, and learning how to live with grief. Her style and sound combine the richness of that life experience with a deep admiration for the roots of country and folk music. Double Dole Stringband play innovative, original and driving old-time tunes. Holding down the fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and vocals ranging sweet to rowdy, they've become stalwarts at venues around their hometown of Naarm/Melbourne, as well as folk festivals across the continent. Inspired by death, political discourse, animus for police and love of native birds, DDSB will have you tapping your toes so hard you'll forget about your misspent taxes. 22nd December, 1917. There is a knock at the door of Millicent Fawcetts home on Gower Street, Bloomsbury. Lady Ottoline Morrell has crossed from her home at 44 Bedford Square to express her condolences for the loss of a beloved sister. Millicent Fawcett, leader of the suffragists, is about to open the door to the patroness of the Bloomsbury Group. Ottolines vast circle of friends includes Prime Ministers and novelists, painters and philosophers. Her world is tainted by the whiff of scandal and the whisper of notoriety. Millicent on the other hand has been unwavering in her dedication to the crusade for womens suffrage. Across The Square imagines what might have occurred in an encounter between these two sharply contrasting women from very different worlds. Each in their own way, Lady Ottoline Morrell and Millicent Fawcett have left an indelible legacy on our political and cultural landscape yet they have languished too long in the twilight of obscurity, overshadowed by others. In a show full of both laughter and drama, Across the Square seeks to shine a light on these immensely influential women. Written by international award-winning writer, Non Vaughan-OHagan and directed by Alex Pearson, Across the Square had its premiere at the Bloomsbury Festival and a sellout revival at Londons Jermyn Street Theatre.
